I was a more than a little sceptical about these skis to say the least. Last season I picked a pair of the then current Nordica Beast 74s taking advantage of a late season bargain. I had to wait until early this season to take them out. Had a great days skiing, before I landed a red kicker a ‘little’ far forward than I would have liked and in a blink I was the owner of a pair of skis with a more than obvious cracks about 3cm from the tips. Still, let’s give them the benefit of the doubt.

Sidecut: 124-92-116 Manufacturer's Description: “The Nordica ski for extreme free riders, specifically made to offer control and progression.” Ski-Review's Verdict: Awesome looking sticks the Nordica Beast 12 TTs, although not quite as impressive as my ill-fated 74s. Looking like NASA inspired prototypes, they shine and glimmer, although they do not feature the 74’s binding mounting plate settings worthy of a place in an aforementioned company’s Shuttle. Overkill perhaps but pleasant to play with none the less. The 12 TT has a more traditional ‘two piece’ mount with nothing in between. The Nordica Beast 12 TT does however, carry with it the small grooves in the tail and tip giving a water ski effect when in medium depth powder. Despite a mammoth 92 mm waist and noting special in the shovel the 12 TTs will quite happily arc medium and above turns at relative speed on the groom, tackle reds and above with gusto, provide solid edge grip in both carved and skidded turns. But it really comes alive where it counts; where there is no piste marker in sight. The skis feel heavier underfoot than most I have tried in this category which requires quite a lot of input by the rider to get them to work. Not so great in moguls. Not bad, but not great. Would very much like to comment about performance in the park however I am sure you will respect my decision not to go down that road on this occasion. Conclusion? If I had the choice I would still keep the 74 over the 12 TT. Nordica has made a great ski, no doubt about that but the 74 had that little extra which is always difficult to put into words. Hopefully Nordica responds to my contact with them soon enough regarding the 74s. Despite the circumstances they should not have cracked like that. When you buy this ski it generally comes in a package with bindings. I believe mine had Marker bindings but they were the ones which came as standard. | Nordica Beast 12TTs: awesome

These are FUN, powerful skiis, seem to do it all--crud, powder, carving longer arcs on corduroy. Lots of edge-hold, pop, and quick turn initiation (don't let the 25m arc scare you off--they like short turns too). Yet stable at speed. I agree with the mogul comment (but then moguls suck...). Not that good in the park...too soft for those back-seat landings. However are pretty good in the deep stuff |
