When I rode these in Perisher Blue I found that these one were a little bit softer and lighter than the 06 B5 - all round they are a good ski but you need to go fast.

B5 is an excellent ski

Wow! I demoed these skis last season and I couldn't believe what a difference a ski could make. They are amazing in the turns on almost any type of snow. They weren't too agile in moguls, but they more than made up for it everywhere else. I had to buy a pair this year. Definitely worth the money.

Incredible

I have heard so many remarks about this ski being heavy. My girlfriend is 5ft 2 inches 125lbs and she moves these 152cm ski's like they were a feather and that's what she says. When they are on your feet you don't feel any weight at all nana... So all these people saying there to heavy should stop carrying them and start skiing them. I weight 200 lbs, 5 ft 9 inches and got on her 152cm which were a bit to short for me and wow I loved them and I ski fast and found them no problem at high speeds in the crud and groomed. The first word that came to me was Ferrari !! I have never skied anything so smooth in all conditions . I am currently looking for 162 on ebay see if i can get a good deal. hehe

Tried them yesterday on Blackcomb
Written by Ski Review Guest on 2007-01-16 01:17:04

Tried 3 different skis in total (Monster 77, B5, and Bandit2).
The guy at the demos said - you'll either like these or not. I'm the second I guess - not the only one unfortunately (including that demo guy lol).
The first and the most - the skis are heavy! Not on your shoulder, but when you ski. Major drawback to me. I’m an advanced freeride/off-piste skier. 178/80kg. The ones I own – B2. These are definitely stable. But... So what? They didn’t shine in any particular major – too heavy to my taste on bumps. OK, but not super-blow-my-head-off on crud and groomed runs. Weren’t able to try them in powder because of the absence of it – but these weren’t specially designed for it, so it’s safe to say that with this weight tied to your feet and moderate waist – not the best thing in there too.
I’m glad I tried Atomics, because I was seriously considering buying one of the Metron line-up. Now I know, these are not for me.
What pleasantly surprised me that day is Monsters – never thought seriously about Head, but now – even thinking of probably getting one of those mountain Cadillacs lol.

By far the best ski I have ever owned. (172cm) I am 6'2" 230lbs and the weight is only noticeable on the way to the lift line. It will shred and plough through anything you throw at it and then beg for more. If you have a complaint then perhaps they are too advanced for your ability. AAA++++

If you can ski with cross under or cross over these skis rip. I've skied them in all conditions and they are great. The faster you go the better the ski. I'm 5'7" 190 and use 162's. Never thought I'd ski on anything this short but now I'll never go back.

Excellent ski. I rented a pair at Whistler Blackcombe a couple of weeks ago. Conditions were spring like and I found these skis excellent. Especially if you ride fast.
As for the weight, I agree with 2007-01-12 20:26:31 (AAA+++)

Great Ski!
Written by Ski Review Guest on 2007-03-21 00:03:41

I skied these at Alpental March 18, 07 in spring conditions. Runs were steep and soft off of International and into the bowl. All I can say is that these skis were amazing. After skiing Volkl 724 Pros (177's) for the past tow years I found that the 162 B5's could get me into and out of steeps - including chutes and bumps much much better than I ever expected. If you ski them hard they rip - are very stable at speed - much more so than the 724's. Wish I could have skied them in powder - but from all the posts I've read I think they will be great. You must try these for yourself to see what a difference a design like this can make in your skiing ability and enjoyment.

need to buy a pair :-)

after 30 years of skiing experience (i am 34), I finally found the ski that suits me the best. I have rented it last week and definitly decided to buy a pair. Tried it in almost all conditions (off piste, on ice,not on powdersnow because lack of it...) and they really challenge you...They make you ski to and above your own limits.

I live at Sun Valley, Idaho. 3400' of vert., and quite steep. Runs are groomed daily. They are long and wide and mostly straight down. crowded runs are unheard of, because it's expensive and difficult to get here. That said, the B5's are the ugliest and most strangly designed ski I'd ever seen. DJ, one of the areas best, saw me looking at these beasts in a ski shop. He said, "I see your looking at my favorite skiis" I said, "Surly your joking?" "no" he said. "buy them, you'll fall in love". So I did. The only thing I can add to the above reviews is "Dito"

The B5's are a heavy ski when not on your feet but that does'nt matter once you get them on - they are excellent - great fun - able ski - especially at speed.

Many things come together with these easy to turn, all mountain ski. As an expert male skier for 31 years, 170 pounds, and use to all kinds of conditions, I have found these skis to perform very well in all conditions. Being that our snow turns firm fairly fast around these parts, (WA and N. ID and MT), I prefer more of a carving/ all mtn race ski. I was hoping to find a ski to do it all from the smooth firm groomers to skiing the powder and skied-out crud. The B5i is the one I desided to try. The B5i length I chose was 172cm with the 76mm waist, and I'm glad I did. With a turn radius of 12 meters, they crank tight little, and GS turns when asked and power you into the next. Carving hard edges at speed (I custom tuned the edges to .5 degrees bottom and 2 degrees side) on groomers and junk, the snow bite was impressive. The skis where smooth as silk, stable as rocks, while slicing solid slalom and GS turns. They track beaitifly in all phases of the turn. Even during figure 11's these skis didn't waiver much at all. In the steeps and the crud the B5i also rocked. They dig in hard when you need to on the double black diamonds, and then float medium well in the crud and powder. They also wiggle in and out of trees with ease. I like these all of these features. The B5i's are the most controllable, high performance, forgiving, all-mountain race ski I have skied on, ever. Perfect! Thank the snow Gods for technology!

Great Ski!!

I ski in SW MT and these skiis rock. Great on all terrain and at moderate or faster speeds. This a great ski for go anywhere at anytime. Yea, fat skiis are a bit better in the powpow but on the groomers and cat tracks the B5 makes up for it. Buy it - Love it - Rip it.

The SUV of skis

Ever had a dream where your full potential as a skier suddenly is unleashed? You master absolutely everything? Well, I've had a pair of Metron B5's for the third season now, and it's a dream come true. These skis are truly the SUV of alpine skiing. They master moguls and off-piste, they are incredibly stable at high speed and deliver ultimate carving experience on groomed slopes. All in one! I am hooked! And yes, they are heavy, but I'm not into randonne so I couldn't care less. Highly recommended!

ATOMIC B5 METRON 2005
Written by Ski Review Guest on 2008-07-06 06:14:29

I am 17, Australian Male (69KGS and 181 CM's) I own both the 152 and 162 Metrons B5

Well I have been on these skis for three seasons now, in both Australia (Mt Buller) and the US (Aspen). They have dealt with the conditions very well, in Australia on soft, wet and icy snow they have held up well and on the groomed beatufial white stuff in the US they have been sublime (well as all skis should in these conditions)

Pros: Perfect for all conditions and types
Enough grunt to keep most people happy

Cons: Horrible on ice
Lose speed quickly on flats
Dont turn well at low speeds
heavy

I bought the B5's on the strength of the quality and technology that Atomic if famous for and the first ski mag reviews. Skiing Whistler and Tremblant with the variety of snow I encountered these babies floated and plowed through everything and everywhere I went. As an all mountain ski they are a RUSH!! I won't ride anything else.

Amazing
Written by Ski Review Guest on 2008-12-04 22:34:27

I cant praise this ski enough! Owned it about a year now, and every time I put them back on, it's like falling in love again. You will never feel more in control than you do with these skies, they handle high speed like it's nothing.

Many people have commented the weight on these skis. I'm 19 years old, 180 cm, 65 kilos, and I ride the 172 version. This is by far the heaviest skies I have owned, but their weigth is also their reason for stability. My first thought riding this ski wasn't "god, this is heavy", but the feeling that the ski is challenging you. So it's a ski that will demand that you work a bit, both physicly and skillwise, but what they give you in return is more than worth it.

Love it
Written by Ski Review Guest on 2009-01-07 18:40:58

I also had the problem of the ski not running well on flats. With my B5 I changed the base edge angle to cause the ski to "float" more. (3 degree base edge and 3 degree side edge).
I found the ski wouldn't hold a high speed on flats long with standard edge degrees. Once I changed to a 3 degree base and 3 degree side...OMG so much faster in the flats and the skies dive into corners when there pressed. So be prepared. I’m 165 pds and 5'10" and I put my elbows on the snow doing SL turns with these skies.

I highly regard the Metron B5 as a top of the line ski. The weight of the skill helps with the ski.

nothing better

After 45 years of skiing of which over 25 was racing and coaching and now I focus on steep n deep with my kids - -these skis are the best. I have slalom skis but use these to race both Slalom and GS because they carve so well and I love them in tight steep chutes
but you had better be strong and be ready to handle the gforce they create in the arc my 162's only get unstable over 45 mph or in 2 feet of crud when bombing

Soul Mate Skis
Written by Ski Review Guest on 2009-01-27 18:21:16

I was turned on to these skis by an instructor 4 years ago. I just bought a new pair to replace my old ones. If you like to carve fast arcs from slalom sized to GS, on a ski with some energy-- nothing comes close to being as much fun.
The bonus is that they perform well in crud and even a foot or so of powder.
I ski with 4 other very good skiers--we all love them and keep a pair in our quivers.

Atomic should not discontinue these darlings. The Crimson Ti is better in the deeper stuff but on the front side doesn't come close.

Wish the still made them
Written by Ski Review Guest on 2009-02-11 05:01:59

I skied M11s then moved up to the B5. The B5 is phenomenal. I wish Atomic still made something comparable. I have just added a pair of Crimson Tis to my quiver, but I will always have a soft spot for the B5. I plan to keep them until they are well and truly dead. There is nothing quite like the launch of a B5 as you come over top from one pure carved turn to another.

nothing like this
Written by Ski Review Guest on 2009-03-03 12:52:03

the best ski i ever had. Powerfull and stable like i drive a fast 4x4.
The only thing you need is power on your feet. As about their weight, stop carrying but ride them hard !!!!

Just bought these and I am impressed. Can a ski make you 50% better overnight? I wouldn't have thought so but these b5 skis are the real deal. I skied every condition including some double black back country (kicking horse BC) and found them to be a confidence inspiring ride. Just get them while you still can!

I've had four seasons on the 05? (orange and grey) and wow do they turn. I have never experienced edge grip like it on any ski. The weight thing is crapola, they initiate as well as any light ski. I get blisters on my hips from these brutes.

I really cannot believe they stopped making them? Poor move Atomic...

i have skied everything everywhere...no ski compares to the B5i...absolutely the best ski EVER made...atomic are total idiots for discontinuing this line....utter stupidity!

We should sign petition to atomic ...
Written by Ski Review Guest on 2009-08-28 18:42:17

... to continue produce of these skis. I use a MONEY and TIME to find skis for myself and finally I buy first 2007 and again these years just because I heard that they stop produce them. I am 200 cm 125 kg and I ski on 172. They are really unbelievable. Especially for us high and heavy guys who loves short turns, powder, black slopes, whatever you want... so advice for Atomic, reconsider your decision on stop making these skis. Currently on the market it is not possible to find even close skis like b5. So be shore that you will have buyers for long time…

atomic Metron B5. buying 3rd pair tomorr
Written by Ski Review Guest on 2009-10-31 04:29:57

Tried fellow instuctors pair. For the 1st time in 48 years of skiing could carve trenches at will, scribe complete 360degree RR tracks when carving at speed into flat, touch knuckles to inside of Carve, Carve in broken NW crud,Leap tall builidngs with a single bound.. Bought his pair even though they had over 50 days use. Keeped for rock skis, bought another use pair o off craigs list last season, and piking up 3rd pair tomorrow. I'm 160lb, use 162cm. Swear at on my old shoulder sin the parking lot swear by them on the hill. Fellow level 11 320lb 6'' isntructor used 172cm's. You should see his trenches! Had 135 lb female instructor try my 162cm. she dumped her wimpy ladies ski's and is rockin on my first pair. Make srue you get the b5, not b5i or b511 if you like to CARVE in all conditions. Not difficult to ski if your movement patterns are good. No prob. teaching lessons on at slow speeds.
