These things can really do it all. If you can carve, they will carve, suprisingly well. Of course they ride fakie like mad and love to jump. I used to ride Volk 5 stars but now rarely take them out. Fun Fun Fun! |

Mediocre Written by Ski Review Guest on 2005-02-02 18:12:23
The 1080 isn´t as bad as some of the other skis that salomon makes, but don´t expect any stability in long turns. Decent for short quick turns that stay on edge or for people who are light. The first series of 1080´s was much better however. My advice is stay open to other brands like K2, Head, Movements, or Volkl, espcially if you want something that is more versitale. |
YO, from Aspen Written by Ski Review Guest on 2005-02-03 15:41:42
1080's are a good ski. It will ski the entire mtn and park, but your lucky if you get more than a season out of 'em. (60 days) Weak edges and base. If you ski them out of the park in sketchy conditions it is only a matter of time before you blow and edge. Salomon will replace but it takes 3-4 weeks. Great ski if you get 'em free. |

I'm from the east...Attitash and Sunday River are my main two mountains. 1080s are dope guys. I have gotten surprisingly 2 seasons of out them..and thats with beating the bag out of them on rails. True I have no edges left in the middle but still ski-able. Over two seasons of rails..I have a tiny little crack in one of my edges now..thats it...definately will give you the bang youve always dreamed about for your buck! Aha...peace. |

Get what you pay for. Written by Ski Review Guest on 2005-03-19 03:02:34
This is a cheap ski, you get a cheaply made product. I blew my edge out in 9 days. They didn't replace them for me. I started to notice extreme changes in the behavior after about 20 days. They really lost their flex. The foam core deteriorates very quickly. Wouldn't recommend these at all. Get something with a wood core. |
2006 models Written by Ski Review Guest on 2005-03-21 06:52:39
The Pocket Rocket will be called the GUN in 2006. The FOIL is an entirely new ski. Both are part of the new 1080 line of skis offered by Salomon. The 1080 is no longer one ski but a line of skis. I tested the FOIL in Sierra cement this past weekend and it handled the conditions flawlessly. For the particular conditions, the GUN couldn't hold a candle to the FOIL. The Foil ripped. It will also have an MSRP of only $499. |

as long as you dont expect to be able to high speed carvs all the time the skis should hold up. as far as park its not the skis its the guy on the skis. if you can handle em they'll give you enough feed back. |
So-So Written by Ski Review Guest on 2005-03-29 23:35:26
These are really kick ass skis... for two weeks. Eventually the foam started to deteriorate and the edges give out. That was only after about 9 days in the park. Please salomon, put some wood in them! |
ski rule Written by Ski Review Guest on 2005-03-29 23:43:09
it will go fast. I am an expert skier and do tricks well...this ski will carve on its own when you just skid and it goes into a carve on its own. this ski rules and it is good for jibbing and tearing up the slopes... At jackson hole my and my friends hit the lifts early and smoked a mary jane on the way up the bridger gondola...we tore up the groomers then went to the park and tore it up on this ski. |
strong Written by Ski Review Guest on 2005-04-05 00:39:02
this ski can really hold its own. i bought a pair of '04s last winter and took them out to snowbird where the snow was deep--they floated. tried them in some crud back in tahoe, they muscled through it all. my only fear is that it's only a matter of time before a rail or rock does in the edge :-( . oh well, til then! |
Powder and quick turns Written by Ski Review Guest on 2005-04-12 20:34:41
Demo'd this ski at Taos Ski Valley this past Sunday with 7 inches of fresh powder, the ski floated and plowed through the snow and was quick and responsive to tight turns in the trees and bumps. The conditions where a mixed bag with fresh powder on top and crunchy ice bottom but the ski held its edge and handled the random snow conditions with ease. I highly recommend this ski even if you don't plan to take it to the park. |

1080 foils Written by Ski Review Guest on 2005-05-16 13:38:40
I tried a pair of foils on the last day in the alps of my season, they worked fantastically. Great ski, Im probably buying them next season. |

The '06 1080 Line Written by Ski Review Guest on 2005-09-11 05:43:09
The New 1080 Line consists of the Thrusters, Foils, Guns, and Fish. The Thrusters are the '03/04 1080, but with new graphic and new name. The teneighty has been the same since the '03 "color by size" graphic. Made for the park, GREAT in the bumps. The Guns (pocket rocket), are the same demensions of the Pocket Rocket. Made for Big Mountain Jibbing. The Foils, (My new skis) Are sort of a mixture between The two. Made for the park, but great for carving and powder. The foils are the only [adult] freestyle ski that is "new" for '06 By Salomon. The Fish's, are the Kids version of the Thrusters. |
Which should i go with? Written by Ski Review Guest on 2005-09-20 20:45:56
I am a snowboarder by nature, but i just started getting back into skiing last year. I would concider myself an expert, but i really only want these skiis for park and going big. I am debating what size FOIL's to go with, should i go for the 166 or the 174's. I soly want these skis for tricks, so i dont think going shorter is a bad idea since they will turn easier, but i am 5'10 and suggestions? |
the verdict? Written by Ski Review Guest on 2005-11-02 11:18:44
so is the foam core going to last? What kind of time can I expect to get out of it with park time once a week and occasional carving/moguls? they look amazing, but I don't want to buy a ski that won't last at least a whole season with top performance... |
Oregonguy Written by Ski Review Guest on 2005-11-11 02:32:20
The 1080 Gun is the revamped Pocket Rocket, supposedly with a slightly stiffer tail...I didn't notice a lot of difference. The Gun is intended for the parks and powder but does well on groomers, you just have to tip it more than a conventiona ski to set an edge, due to it's very wide waist. A ski that's a bit heavier but a little more versatile for all-mountain use is the Rossi BC. There is a difference between a foam ski and a wood ski. The Rossi's are livelier, (that's the wood) but the Guns are quite a bit lighter (that's the foam). The Guns don't want to stay on course above 25-30 mph or so (I estimated the speed here), but if you roll them just a tad on edge, they will handle the speed. It is was it is. A fat ski just doesn't want to be stable at high speeds, but in the powder, there isn't anything out there that can match the Gun. |
use by date Written by Ski Review Guest on 2005-12-07 11:08:43
some inexperienced comments here: skis never retain that brand new feeling long, but wont fade that fast that you have bad skis in two weeks, unless yopu are a park junkie who wrecks skis on rails etc - an expensive hobby. i know some top class skiiers who have had them a season and still annoyed me by saying how good they are. if you complain after two weeks - learn to ski properly. |
which skis to buy? Written by Ski Review Guest on 2005-12-10 00:37:25
I'm looking for a ski that does everything well, but doesn't have to specialize in anything. I ski mostly groomed and park and consider myself a lesser skilled advanced skier. Basically, I am looking for a great all around ski that does everything. |
How long should they last? Written by Ski Review Guest on 2005-12-14 01:32:29

Size of 1080 Foils Written by Ski Review Guest on 2005-12-20 20:20:29
I wanted to check on the correct sizing for the 1080 Foils. I was looking at a chart and they said that if you weigh up to 170lbs go with the 166mm and between 175&190 go with either the 166mm/174mm. Any info on this? I was going to get the 166mm as I weight 155lbs. I guess I am not yet use to the fact that ski length is getting shorter. Any feedback is appreciated. |

1080 GUN Written by Ski Review Guest on 2006-02-02 21:29:30
Demo'ed the 1080 gun in Alta after 13" snowfall. They turned and floated w/out effort. Even on the groomers they held their edges (even on icy patches). I demo'ed others. i.e. mantra, b4 rossi (awesome in the powder). I felt the 1080 guns were the best all-arounder in my opinion. So good, I just bought a brand new pair. |

Noodles. But I loved mine, basically you can run straight into a wall of snow wait for one second then have your skis spring you backwards. I also have a pair of 171 in good condition if anybody wants them (philly.thomas@mail.com). |

I think (although do not take my word for it) that the Teneighty Filter is the same as the Teneighty Flyer (look for it on this site, or see http://www.ski-review.com/content/view/381/30/). Perhaps it is called Filter in another market, but check the graphics on the above link, or do a Google image search to see if you can find any matches. |

420's Written by Ski Review Guest on 2007-01-29 11:43:33
420's are a ski that Gart sSorts and other big chain stores carried to give the 1080 look at a couple $100 reduced price. But inside the ski is not the same as the real 1080. You get what you pay for. |

Love my 1080's to death, a definite all terrain ski. Would heartily recommend to anyone who wants to ski the whole mountain and still look good in the park. Only small gripe, if you tend to do a lot of on-piste skiing I would recommend getting another pair (as well as the 1080's), as they tend to be a bit too soft. |

1080 spaceframe Written by Ski Review Guest on 2008-01-30 17:28:49
I've managed to get my hands on some brand new 2004 season 1080's. They were almost impossible to find but it was well worth the effort. Just got back from 2 weeks in Val d'Isère and it was amazig mainly thanks to these skis.I'm 5'11" and weigh 140 pounds so the obvious choice for me was the 171cm model ideally I ski about 175s but there is no such model. Anyway the skis excelled, they're suprisingly stiff up front but with plenty of flex at the back which makes landing tricks much easier. However where these skis really came into their own was when used outside the park. All mountain skiing is not supposed to be the forte of the 1080 so I wasn't expecting much but they were amazing. I've got a pair of 177cm x-scream series as well and the 1080 had no problem keeping up with them. Admittedly at high speed the skiing became slightly twitchy but only when skiing extremely aggressively and as i have been skiing 15 years and racing for Gloucester County when I say aggressive I mean it. I, also, took these skis off piste and into some waist deep powder. Having a relatively wide waist (80mm) and a fairly high front made these a dream in powder. My skis have the bindings mounted in the classic stance which I would recommend unless you are a park rat because it offers much better versatility than the progressive stance. If I had to choose between these and the Rossignol Scratch FS ie the main competition I would choose the 1080 every time as it has a much more stable feel than the scratch which feels fairly washed out. |
