K2 Pontoon Written by xcjamie on 2006-11-20 21:35:48
Ultra fat ski designed by Shane McConkey has a radical design with dimensions of 160/130/120. This ski is for deep pow pow. I cannot imagine its very good anywhere else and kind of expensive. But if you ski a lot of powder it might just be worth it. K2 Pontoon gear review by “xcjamie” |
You'll never go back Written by Ski Review Guest on 2007-05-17 02:00:34
I skied these every pow day this season and trust me, once you ski rocker and this shape, you'll never want regular sidecut and camber in powder again. Ever. You will dust your normal ski pals down the hill and only put in half the effort that they are. You will stomp landings and most importantly, they will make you smile more than the last pair of pow boards you had did. Surprisingly good outside of what they're designed for, ie; groomed snow & hardpack. Enough sidecut underfoot to arc. They rip. |
Not just for powder Written by Ski Review Guest on 2008-05-29 16:20:22
I've skied a pair of pontoons (mounted tele) for the last 6 weeks in a variety of spring conditions (late season powder, heavy powder, mank, slush, corn, breakable crust, etc). I've yet to encounter conditions where I don't prefer the pontoon to a conventional ski. They are spectacular in powder - but lots of skis are. I think the pontoon design (rocker, tapered tail) offers even more advantage in heavy and sloppy snow. They ride over anything and everything. When everyone else is complaining about the sticky slop or breakable crust, I'm just laughing my head off. |
