K2 Silencer (2007)

Trying to decide between these and the Public Enemy. Maybe these would be a little more agile in quick turns with a narrower waist. Like skiing powder and soft stuff in the tight trees. Any suggestions?

Just went and talked with my local K2 rep. He says this is the right choice for someone who likes on/off piste pow with a bit o' pipe thrown in. Great ski for everything. Look for a slightly smaller length for tighter turn radius especially between those trees...

I heard that these skis were too soft to most of the mountain outside of the park. If anybody has skied these yet please let me know how they are on other types of terrain...

These skis are great all over the mountain. I was a little disappointed in the way they flopped around in the powder, but they are great for ripping around on. If you are someone who likes to give it everything in sight then these are the skis for you. If i had to give these skis a mark from 1 to 10 it would be an 8. They are a great ski go out and get them, you wont be disappointed.

A cheap all mountain/ park and pipe twin that is the little brother to the Public Enemy. A little narrower than the Public Enemy and is more agile. Black on black graphics are pretty cool. If your tight on cash these are good skis to get.

Public Enemy or K2 Silencer?

There both brand new, one of them is this ski the Silencer and the other is a Public Enemy RB (re-build of the 2004-2005 model, K2 reproduced them this year). I have not skiied either one, I mainly do all mountain stuff but I am looking for something that can go in the park too. If anyone has another suggjestion for around $400 CAN i would be thrilled. Get the Public Enemy, both the Silencer and the Fujatives are park skis.

From what I am gathering from info it sounds as if the Silencer and the Fujative are way too soft and what I know from experience is that the Public Enemy is way too heavy. Agree/disagree?

Great in the park, moguls, powder, and really light. The K2 Silencer is a good choice for the price.

ive been riding these for about 3 months now and they are great all around. a little sketchy around slow ski turns but they tun great at a highish rate of speed. the flexability is a preference thing so i like them stock but the onee body dissadvantage is the edges are plasic so they chip off nd scape layers off and it looks bad after a lot sf scratches but ho looks at the tips at high speeds? well i love them and will keep riding.

I bought these skis around Christmas and unfortunately there where stolen in February while I was eating, they are overall amazing skis, they are light resonsive, perfectly balanced for rails, landings are smooth and excellent carving ability through trees. Definately a good buy.

Hardly at all compared to how badly the publics chipped, my 06 publics are so bad i got about 10% of what i payed for them when i sold them. Silencers are ideal if youre skiing on dodgy stuff eg. Australia.

can u center mount the silencers? will they be fine to turn on and stuff still

well last year i got mine set on standard but im pretty sure that you can get them centered. great all around ski. good for people who love off-piste but also good in the park.

mine chip a shit load and they have big chunks off the sides from crosses but mine are center mounted and they are fine.

I weigh in at 150 and height comes to 5'8. I am ooking to getting into park siing, i wanna do something new, i have Nordica rod series as my all mountain which do wonderful, but i am not taking those to the park, the most I did with those this season was kickers and boxes, but I would love a park ski, somehting light so ollie gets a little easier, and a strong overall ski. Not to worried about powder because tahoes season this year sucked. But i would love a good park ski as i said. so if you could help me out that would be great!

Im a fairly advanced skier i like to do off piste stuff but my friends like the park im about 5'5" 130 lbs what skis should i get

i recently bought this ski thinking that it would only perform well in the park, but i was completely wrong- this ski performs everywhere. glades, mogles, woods, groomed- this ski does it all. Although, if you are looking to ride more mountain than just park, i would not recommend getting them center mounted like i did because they dont take turns as well as they would mounted a little ways back. Other than this it's a great ski thats worth the money.

After skiing on these for a couple of months now i regret getting them, too much flex for high speeds, and long sweeping turns. absolutly awesome for the park though, agile and light they do well in the air and on rails. im 90kgs and these skis just dont do it for me! light weights would have a feild day. anyone interested in buying text me nz 0274257740.

Overall, great ski, I love em, have the 179's and they're plenty agile enough to get through trees, powder, rails, whatever the hell you wanna do. 
 
But the chipping, it's pretty damn rediculous. Just from skis crossing I've had some big chunks out of the middle that I've had to fill in with Epoxy. So if you get these, buy some of that to fill in the holes every once in a while. 
 
I'd still buy the skis again in a heartbeat..especially for $300. 8.5/10

Im not sure if these reviews are considering th 06 (has a gun on it) or 07 (knives) silencers, Ive now ridden both and find the 07 to be a far superior ski to the 06...I have had no trouble with chipping and FAR prefer this ski to the Public Enemy...I do very minimal park and this ski handles all mountain like a pro. HIGHLY recomendable!

I want skis for all mountain and good for jumps. I like the price and graphics of the silencer but I've been to a couple of shops and the guys say they are not good for somebody my size. The public enemy skis cost about one third more! Anybody out there as big or bigger the me?

I am 6'2'' and weigh about 80kg. I recently bought the 07/08 silencer and to be honest i think its an awsome ski. It wll handle almost anything from kickers & rails to powder & pisted runs.  
 
This ski is soooo much lighter than the public enemy and generaly an awsome ski.

what size should I be looking for? have not skiied in 12 years due to finding what I thought was love in snowbaording, but am dieing to get back on skis instead, I live in Michigan and will be skiing primarly groomed all mountain and some park when my balls get big enough again, how is the silencer in groomed terrain? I think for powder skiing I will run a Volkl Gatama or Karma, but Rockie Mtn. skiing will be minimal.

What ski should I buy. If I can't find the skis I want for a decent price (Volkl Karma), the only good skis I've found in local shops are the 07/08 silencer, 06/07 salomon foil, and 06/07 rossignol scratch sprayer BC (but the scratch sprayer BC's are a little overpriced) I'm 5'9" and weigh 155. I will be skiing at Grand Targee, WY so I mainly want the ski for powder, trees, moguls....the stuff away from other people, but they still have to be able to survive on ice and hardpack. so...yeah. thanks for any suggestions.

I'm am a tight on money twelve year old whos looking at buyinh the 2007 k2 silencers for next year. I'm about 5'4 and weigh 100 lbs. I love the graphix and it seems that the skis would be good at the park it also feels very light.

Do the 07 silencers scratsh easily??????????

New 2008 silencers cost around $300. The old 2007 are about 200 (if you can find them on closeout on the internet) I havn't skied on them or the PE, so I don't know which is better. New 2008 PE (used to be called Public Enemy) are about $450.

Fellow Canadian dudes, if you're looking for last year's Silencers for cheap check out Al's Ski Barn online. They even had 179 cm, which I was looking for in Ontario but couldn't find easy here. It's a USA store but with our high dollar the skis work out to less than $200 CDN. Shipping's free if you can find someone to send to in the US, otherwise I think it's $40. They sell/mount bindings too I think. BTW I got a feeling that this winter we're FINALLY going to get some good snow in Ontario!!!

I'm 175lbs 6'2", and like to hit every part of the hill( a little more park then slope). Should I use the Silencer or the PE's?

Depends how much money you have. If you want something mainly for the park and you have money go for the PE's. But if you have less money and want a good all mountain ski that is also really good in the park go for the silencers.

What are fugatives are they any good?

Get the Fujitive if you want park. Get the PE if you are an agressive or heavier skiier. The Silencer is a great all maountain tool. Its small waist and agility helps it move through trees with ease. Its flex makes it playful and make it a great bump ski. This ski will work fine as a powder ski, epesially for lighter skiers. If you are heavier or a more aggresive skier get the PE. The PE is a more all mountian ski than the silencer because it has less flex. If you want something better for pow get the seth. This ski is cheaper because it has a capped sidwall, is made in China, and is meant for only a year of park ski. If you need a ski that you will break, get this. overall great ski

just got Silencers and Marker 12 Free Wide bindings. these are my first skis in 10 years since I just converted back to skiing from snowboarding. looking to see where the optimal binding mounting point is for free skiing, most liekly 50% park use and 50% all mountain groomed michigan skiing. plan to learn to ride switch as well. look for best location for landings and overall control and comfort. I don't plan to be a back seat skier but more over the center to front. I am fearful of mounting to far back for fear of being off balance in the kickers and drops. the factory mid sole point in my opinion looks a little to far back, so I am here asking advice before having them mounted. Also have a pair of Volkl Karmas to dedicate to more all mountain and big ski trip backcountry rides

sweet for coming back to skiing because we all know skiing is so much better than snowboarding. Volkl karmas are nice same with silencers. I got a pair of silencers they're sweet. What kind of tricks can you do.

i have not been able to ski yet, no snow in michigan .been a decade since i was a cussa racer. i do plan on getting upto par quickly though and hope these flexy k2s help. but really where is my optimal mounting location based on what i stated above?

It depends on your wieght and your style

I had my silencers mounted at around 4.5. think thats just over half way between traditional and true centre. Seems to have turned out well, they are stable in the air and also perfoem well in the powder and on the slopes.

ski is 169cm, i weigh 157lbs and am 5'9 if it helps

I would say to set it further back for powder mid for all and forward for freestyle? You don't have to take my opion you could get help from a real professional. Not that i'm not!!

well i'm about 225, 6'1" with 13 yrs. of experiance on montana mountains. i really dont go into the park at all but i basically do everything else. being a bigger guy, i would like to know which would be better, silencers or PE's...or anything else for that matter! also, what i've gathered from the chipping problem...is that because they are less expensive ski's?

you could also check out the Seth Morrison, sounds more up your alley with its stiffer construction, or look at the Salomon 1080 Foil, wider for powder but narly in the park

good for park setup at your size and strength

last year i had a really good time riding on these skis. they are really buttery in the park but at the same time can make some good turns on moguls and pretty much anywhere on the mountain. I slapped some marker jesters on these jawns and it should be another great season. Im also 16 and about 5'8 and i ride the 169s.

i have just purchased some 169 silencers.. waiting to get on them soon for the first time, but will they resrict me to the park?? because i will want to hit the groomed slopes aswel. any one know from experiance?

I f you are looking to hit the mountain and you are unsure what skis to buy demo them and if you like them great but in my opinion the silencers were a little heavy for me and if you have been skiing for a long time all over the mountain go with the lighter skis they will let you do all the things you want to and help you improve drastically. I have the silencers but I prefer wearing my friends 1080 Solomon Foils

What are the solomon 1080 foils like?????? my old skiis were the solomon 1080 t's and were pretty good but nowhere near as good as the silencers I just got. The Public enemys are ok but the silencers are a better all around ski. I work at a resort in CO and the Public Enemys simply are not as good as the silencer EXCEPT they have a slightly widder cut so they "float" powder slightly better, but not by alot. Overall the silencers are a better buy. Oh and Saloman foils rule!! I love mine so so much, buy a pair

Looking for a good all mountain ski, groomed trails and park. Skiing the Northeast, US. Currently riding TroubleMakers, but really considering buying these Silencers. Want to hear from anyone that has a good knowledge of these ski's or anyone that has demo'd them.

The k2 silencers easily the best skis out there for the price. I own a pair myself and They shred in the park and they are good in powder and on the groomers. I work at a ski shop and highly recommend them if thinking about buying them

im torn between a pair of 07/08 silencers, or some 2006 salomon 1080 foils, wich are half price because there last seasons.. . so there both pretty much same price, i like the park and want to get to love it, but the rest of my ski buddies like the groomers, so i'll be 50/50.. ahh wich ski, or are there other options?

Just bought the 07 Silencers and excited to get out for the first time. I am an all mountain skier but looking to get into the park and the tec had nothing but great things to say about them! Also Just an FYI to all I picked them up for $132 US at REI today

yea i do agree that these skis are sick in the park and pretty much every where else, but they chip really easily. I had to get them epoxied twice and just got another chip the other day. Otherwise, the things are sick.

The best ski i've ever purchased remarkable I took the ski in 4 feet of powder and they had no trouble. Don't hesitate to buy them. They also are great in the park for switch riding.

I dont know if i should place my dindings at the "absolute center" or the recomended placement. These are my first free skis, should i just got with the recmended?

I'm 6ft 175. I bought a pair of 169 08 Silencers (knives) and am wondering how these might hold up in the powder. I want a good all mountain ski that can hold my size in the powder and work pretty well in the park, although it's not my main concern. Should I switch to a pair of 07 PE's?  
 
Also Mounting bindings. 50/50 or standard, or +3? I mainly do powder, but want to do more in the park. I'm leaning towards standard, but want to start doing switch takeoffs.

OK to the guys who wants to know about the PE vs. Silencer, if you like Powder go with the PE. The silencer looks sexy and all, but you will regret the lack of usage when you get a fresh 4"+ and they're sinking to the ground. I don't know about anybody else but when it's coming down that's when I want to ski the most. I am 5'9" and 155lbs. I rented the PE in a 164 length at Breckenridge on an 8" powder day when my "all moutain" skis were sinking for china & I found it to be a very lively ski that was great in pow and very tight trees. The slightly wider waist kept me afloat and thus make it easier to snap them around when inches count. They also are suprisingly agile, and I didn't feel like I was losing any ability on the frontside either. I hate terms like "One-ski-quiver" but it really does do everything sickeningly well. I blew away moguls with them, I caught air off everything, and they didn't get chattery even when I was straightlining the sketched-out double diamond horseshoe bowl with them. The six-foot roostertails kept my buddies from drafting me too which was pretty sweet. I can't think of a better tool to bring when you're planning on doing everything. You can hit the park, the bowls, the frontside groomers, the moguls and the trees and feel great doing it all. My only gripe is that the egdes of the topsheet looked like they'd been involved in a shark attack. Other than that, throw in a $500 price tag and you've got a bargain that will make you look waaaaay better than you actually are. Buy them. Never look back. I can't wait to get mine!

I WOULD SAY THE K2 HELLBENT BUT THATS JUST ME

Hellbents are in totally dif. class of ski. Silencers and invaders are more of an all mt. + a little bit of park. Hellbents are only good in ungroomed.

hi i wanna get some silencer 06/07 (silencer gun on it) because i love the design and there no pount in getting any others cos i wont be happy with the pattern anyway i cant finfd them anywhere in the uk any ideas on where i can get them shipped from america i need 169s although might be tempted for 159s just for the exra added controll

I'm 6 foot 2 inches, and 185 lbs. I own a par of '06-'07 Silencers (with the guns, not the knives. . . what genius at K2 decided that a knife was a good pattern for a ski called a "Silencer"? Bring back the Gun in 2008!) Anyway, I have mine set up with Salomon Z10 Bindings and Salomon Performa 4 Boots. I love these skis. They're great for powder, groom, glades, and park. As everyone who owns a pair of these knows, the IBM-TinkPad-like tops chip and scratch like mad. Just get them tuned and epoxied every 6-8 times out, and keep a black Sharpie in your boot bad. Oh, and did I mention. . . "K2! Hey! Bring back the gun!!!"

07 silencers

I'm looking for a new pair of skis. I really like the silencers i'm just concerned they might be a little thin at the waist. I'm looking for a ski that is good in the park but also can go all over the mountain. would this be a good bet vs. something a little wider like a Public Enemy or a Line chronic or anthem? I'm 5'9 170 pretty good skiier looking to get better in the park

I'm a skier who just started this season, but im going off of 15 almost 20 foot jumps, i'm out in NH and i really like park and all mountain. i'm 5' 6" 135 lbs. do you think the silencers would be good for me? if not give me some other reccomendations

Fat bald bloke from N.I., 43, 13 stone, [that's about 172 in your money], just started skiing last year.I'm off to Zell Am See in Austria on 6th march.I'll let you guys know how they and I fare. It might help you decide on wether they are worth a bargain punt in the summer sales.

I am trying to decide what skis to get either the silencers or the el reys. Are either of them good all-mountain skis and which one is better for the price. I heard that the silencers aren't that great for powder and that they scratch easily. I need help. The armadas are supposed to be really good so please help me.

just bought a pair of 07 silencers they should arive by friday 2/22 i will let you guys know what i think about them as soon as i trie them out

these skis rock, the flex is nice, when they get an edge in the groomed or solid pack/ice they carve so f*ing good, damn near perfect. they fast, keep up with friends on Volkl 5 stars and fisher race skis. they go exactly where you want and have control in the air. I rag the hell out of them as well as ski through the parking lots and they get awfully banged up and they hold up well.

I really like what I've seen of these skis, and I'm trying to decide between 159 or 169. I'm 143 lbs 5'8" [175 cm] intermediate, have only been skiing a couple of years. I'm leaning towards 159 just for that extra maneuverability. Any suggestions?

159 is gnar for the park(spinnin and kr@p) and trees  
 
but the 169 will be faster and pick up speed faster

Hi....I've been reading this thread and really appreciate all the input. I am 5'9", 150lbs and I was planning on getting the K2 Silencers in 159cm but it seems to me that most people talking about this size are a fair bit smaller than me...should I be on K2 PE 159 or 164 or the Silencer 159 or 169..? I'm more of an all mountain buy w/about 10 yrs experience. Thanks a lot.

these skis are freaking amazing there agile and insainley forgiving i used a paire of line cronics and i actualy liked the k2s better. so if you are debating betweine the silencers and another ski i strongley sugjest the silencers.

I was considering buying Silencers so I hired some (169's) for 2 days in Avoriaz/ Portes Du Soleil a couple of weeks ago. I'm about 5ft 10 and 80kg, main piste/ backcountry but wanted to get into the park some more. These are great all round skis, very forgiving and even took the weight pretty well in the powder given the small footprint. I've bought a pair and am off to test them further next week - do it. 

im 5'8" (175 cm) and 130lb (60kg) and i would be spending around 60 - 70% of the time on piste. Would the silencers be not as good as the PEs since the PEs are supposedly better on piste. Or would my ligt weight mean that the silencers are better due to their lightness and agility.

silencers are all mountain skis with a little park in them. They have a little flex. Public Enimies are mostly park skis. Fugiatives are flexible park skis.

iv been riding them all season and they held up really well on the groomers and have exceptional speed and agility but scratch pretty easily in the park.

i scratched these skiis down to the metal when doin 360s 
but they rock

I'm Alex, 5ft 9ish, weighing in at 165 kg and am looking to buy a pair of K2 Silencers. I would be using the skis all ove rthe mountain, on piste, some off, an attempt at some park even!I cant decide whetehr the 159s or the 169s would be more appropriate!I'm leaning towards the 159's but it just seems really short since I was given a pair of 174 or 176 Scott Missions in Chamonix this year?Any help would be much appreciated!Thanks

From what i have read on numerous websites about these two skis is that the silencers are for all-round skiing i.e. park, piest, trees, jumps, rails, pipes. And the Public enemies are maily only for park, rails, jumps and pipes. This is due to the silencers dimensions all being 5mm smaller than the PEs so it makes them more agile and easier to turn.  
 
So the verdict is, if you are going to be skiing all over the mountain including parks, then your best bet is the silencers. But if you are only going to be skiing park then the Public Enemy skis are your best choice.

bit better than PE's cause theyre cheaper and if you know how to use them they r forgiving skis

IM LOOKING TO BUY A PAIR OF THESE FROM SOME1 ON CRAIGSLIST AND THE BOTTOMS OF HIS ARE BLACK?!?!? SO IM NOT SURE BECAUSE ONLINE EVERYWHERE I LOOK THE BOTTOMS ARE WHITE!!! IF ANY1 KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT THE BLACK BOTTOM ONES IF THEY DO SELL THEM PLEASE RESPOND!!!!!!!
