2 full cm of taper angle is the big news with this ski. For years, we have been trying to educate the consumer when it comes to finding a versatile ski that is worthy of expert skiers. This is a prime example. 20mm of taper lets the skier choose turn shapes and makes for a great mogul ski (the Contact 9 with similar dimensions and SLIGHTLY softer flex, is easier in bumps).
Brand: Dynastar Ski: Contact Ltd (2008) Ski discipline: Piste performance Length(s): 158-165-172-178 Radius: 15 Sidecut(s) (tip-waist-tail): 122-72-102 Weight (ski only): 2657 Cost (inclusive of bindings): £599.95 Bindings: Dynastar PX12 ti Fluid Manufacturer's Description of the Dynastar Limited: "The Contacts are built for speed on groomers and in crud like conditions. The Limited is for advanced, elite skiers who want to link perfectly executed turns with power and consistency on all types of terrain and crave the quickness of a carving ski with the versatility of a free ride ski. All Mountain Skis for the expert skier that is 70% on Piste and 30% off Piste." Ski-Review's Verdict: Light, really light feel with a serious talent for aggressive carving, and plenty of taper angle to allow the expert to call up any turn shape on any terrain at any time. True versatility comes from engaging and releasing the edges with no effort. Roll ‘em on! Roll ‘em off! FIS might have some argument about this ski giving the athlete an unfair advantage. SERIOUS carver and huge FUN. One of the BEST overall. For everything! In an ocean of so called expert carvers, this one stands above the rest! Quick, fast and FUN! When the competitors are testing other gear, this is the ski they wish they could offer. First impressions of very light gave way to feelings of very high performance carvers. They hold and hold and hold, never wavering from the arc in some textbook carving. I LOVE THIS SKI! Gives new meaning to the term “initiation” Experts will feel the shovel pull them into the turn; a great feel, and edge grip is spectacular. Easier than last year’s Limited, and more suited to a variety of terrain.

The 07/08 Contact Limited is a great piste ski... It holds its edge and is a very consistant ski giving the skier all different types of possible turn shapes. It is excellent for long and medium turns and is surprisingly stable considering it is a relativley light ski. Short turns are very good.... The fluid binding is a really great assest to the ski as it allows the skier to change thebinding sole length within 1 min. If I can say one bad thing about this ski, is that when the snow gets heavy going, it is not your best friend as it can through you around if your not in the drivers seat. This is a ski mainly for expert skiers and if you like the fealing of smooth and symetrical turn shapes this is the ski for you!!! Dynastar has done a great job with this ski. I would give it 9.5/10, but beware it comes at a heavty price!!! | Couldn't wait - tried them and love the Written by Ski Review Guest on 2007-12-13 11:38:33
I picked up my new Contact Limiteds 172cm (red and black/white, not as pictured) this weekend, and couldn't wait for the Alps, so took them to the snowdome for a try out. I LOVE them! There's plenty of edge grip and enough consistent flex to get a fluid, solid carve. They're torsionally rigid, so both large and short turns are easy if you have good technique, but with the lively edge I wouldn't recommend these for beginners - they'll throw you off if you get it wrong. They're wider at the waist than a GS ski and quite heavy too - and have very high bindings - you do need to work them to get the life out of them - but when you do, it's lovely! Verdict: Good for technical skiiers who do mostly fast and hard pistes, with a foray off piste. Bad if you ever use a snowplough, scardy-cats or anyone who wants an easy ride. | Update of my earlier review (13/12) Written by Ski Review Guest on 2008-01-03 09:07:14
Just got back from real snow - and thought I'd let you know what they were like. They were AWESOME!!! Carved easily with consistent flex with no chatter (the fluid bindings were a real asset here), were light enough to ski bumps (though you have to stay in control), solid enough to do the steeps with ease, and handled well at speed. These wasn't any powder around, but they were a blast everywhere we went. I LOVE THEM! | Written by Ski Review Guest on 2008-04-01 20:56:28
Demoed these in 172 and 178 at Boyne Mountain, MI in typical Midwest Spring conditions, meaning everything from bulletproof ice to a foot of wet concrete, and everything in between - sometimes all on the same run. The 172 is extremely nimble, but I found the 178 more stable at speed and in heavier snow. After a bit of agonizing, decided to buy the 178s. They are versatile and respon dperform well to variety of techniques both ancient and modern, but they do demand your attention, and I wouldn't recommend them to novices. I'm 5'11" 175#, finally but wistfully giving up my 25-year old 195 Atomic SLs in favor of this new-fangled gear. | |
