My first ever Movement, well "Movement ski" that is.

First impressions, hot lava, like all Movement skis is ships with a stunning design, but is beauty only skin deep??

Model: Demon Flame
Size(cm) / Radius(m): 159/? 169/? 179/? (Radius across the size range 10 to 17m)
Sidecut : 116-77-106
Length tested: 169

Manufacturer's Description:

"The ski of the future is born under a lucky star. Happy in the air, happy in deep snow - on bumps, in crud and slush and ice! It will take you anywhere and you will enjoy the ride. A brilliant design with amazing performance, the Demon Flame is one of our lethal weapons."

Ski-Review's Verdict:

Well - at first I was not too impressed with these skis, but like a new album from your favourite band they grow on you after a while.  As I spent the morning on the race skis from the racks of the K2, Stockli, Nordica and Rossingnol, I think I was too quick to judge.

I made a conscious effect to look down to remind me what I was skiing on.  I had heard of rumours of a reasonably fresh run that had not been hacked to bits by people like myself pushing skis as far as they went. So off I went with Oli behind me on a pair of Movement Joysticks giggling like a schoolgirl (review coming soon).   So up the lift we went (you can see us just before the run on our 'Photos from Zermatt' page - the one where I am blocking the view...).

So off I went, open minded and aaahhh look an open run, this was a black that looped round the back of the ski area and joined at the bottom of the same run I had just done.

Enough scene setting...

They did find keeping it together at high speed a little taxing but they are not intended for that, so with the speed I had, I skied up the mountain as far as I could and started hiking upwards - as I high as I could go.

The conditions, for both the snow and the weather, on this run could be described as sun baked and full of powder - good job then.

This is where you found out what the Demon Flame is all about. As they are not particularly heavy, carrying this ski around is not a problem.  However, the ski does not tend to do much unless you make it - sounds like an obvious statement to make but if you let the terrain rule the ski you will have problems - if you are heavy or strong you will not find this a problem - if not rethink these skis or just eat more.  As with any ski, always try and demo them before parting with your hard earned, but I think with the amount of freeride skis available now, you have simply got to because there is so much choice, that you might just find your ski soul mate - and who knows it might be these...

I thought the Swiss were only good a making Cuckoo clocks and Stockli skis, but in this they have a brand that everyone is starting to notice.

Conclusion?

In short a very good stab at an all mountain ski.  Likely to attract a small following amongst telemark skiers and very similar to some of Lines offerings.

I borrowed a pair of Demon's on a trip to France last year. I'd spent the best part of a week skiing 18" of powder on an old set of Fischer GS Skis. Great fun but hard work.
The Demon's were a hoot! A couple of runs later I was hooked. On return to the UK a pair of Demon Flame's were quickly added to my collection.
In Norway later in the year they proved to be every bit as capable on the hard pack and off the jumps in the snowpark as they were in the deep stuff.
Great Ski, Lots of fun and very capable. You wont go wrong with these.

where can i find some?
