Dynastar Ski Cross 9 (2005)

The Ski Cross 9 is easily the most ski for the dollar if you only own one pair and ski everything the mountain can throw at you.

Model: Dynastar Ski Cross 9
Size(cm) / Radius(m): 154/13 162/15 170/16 178/17 186/19
Sidecut : 110-69-98
Length tested: 170/178cm

Manufacturer’s Description:

"The Cross 9 is for advanced through expert aggressive skiers who ski technically but want a slightly lighter, more forgiving ski for maximum on-trail versatility.  Autodrive Rebound System composite plate delivers excellent stability, power and edge grip."

Ski-Review’s Verdict:

The biggest “tip & rip” surprise of the test.

The 9 is easily the most ski for the dollar. While heavier skiers may overpower it,  most will love the confidence that the ski inspires on even the nastiest hard-pack. (see the SC10 if you are over the 175lb mark. The dimensions are the same, but the 10 is stiffer and has a Titanium alloy lifter)

“Stunningly” easy turn initiation. Smooth, quick and truly fun. This is one of those “we guarantee it” skis.

Consider a binding with additional lift, raising the skier up to FIS limits - (55mm). This will allow more aggressive edging and pressure, without "booting out" and produce some BIG grins, as well as encouraging better technique by actively pressuring both skis.

A great alternative to Volkl’s Five Star and you can use Look/Rossi’s turntable - more elasticity and ski at a lower DIN without risking prerelease.

Conclusion?  Great skis at a reasonable price.

I am an advanced skier, 48, 5’10” and 195lb. I have just spent my first weekend in Quebec/Vermont with this ski in 170cm and look p12 Ti bindings and am astounded by the quickness and versatility of the combination. I ran in everything from fresh powder to ice to glades and bumps and this ski handled it all with grace and stability.I never found this ski to be skittish or squirrelly. It flexed well in low speed bumps, edged solid through crud and ice, and tracked like on rails at high speed. Does it get any better than this?

My first shaped ski. Hadnt skied for 6 years. 5’ 8 inches, 200 lbs. Got a great deal at sports authority and went with the 162’s. What a blast. I have found these skis to be very forgiving in learning the new technique (for me) of carving ( they will allow some skidding). Ice? No problem. Spring conditions? Beautiful. It is so much less work skiing these skis then my old pencil skis. I am skiing faster and better than I ever have.
