K2 Moto Cross Comp (2007)

I had a pair of K2 GS race skis from 05 and luckily the side wall delaminated slightly. They gave me the option of the motocross comp as a replacement. What a bit of luck, these things are just as quick as the GS on groomed and can also handle choppy crap later in the day without having to have legs like the herminater. I use them in Masters GS races and they rip. The only things I have against them is that when it is hard packed you can forget skiing on crowded runs cause if you drive the edge you just smoke past the punters like they are standing still. It ends up being a bit of a drag if you’re having to wash off speed all the time to stop you wiping out some dopey knuckle dragger. On those days I tend to ski on my slalom skis.

I have to agree with the above reviewer. At my age, it’s better to have something that cranks around a little quicker. 16 M is a bit long if you ski a steep mountain. I like the precision, but as soon as a few people arrive, continually slowing down is a bit tireing. I live at Sun Valley, Idaho, and you can’t complain about the mountain or the crowds (there aren’t any) but a lot of people ski a slalom ski just for that reason.

I have a pair of K2 MOTO COMP in a 181.  These were a prototype with the metal inlay like the new crossfires.  Simply amazing.  Lightning fast edge to edge, stable at speed.  These are my new favorites.  Buy them!

I am skiing these as my hard snow telemark skis for patrolling on a midsize New England mountain. 

At 174 cm with a 16 mm radius they are quick enough yet stable enough at speed.  Fun ski - matched with a pair of TelBuldogs they make a great work ski.

All above reviews are correct. I have the neon green version (european, I think) instead of the orange. As a patroller in the midwest, these skis hold very well on hard pack and ice. very quick from turn to turn. A great all round ski. However, they are a bit too narrow in the waist for rocky mountain pow days. They sink much deeper than the apache recons, which is probably the better all mountain choice. but like I said, these are purpose built and K2 was right on the money. They jmp very well too with a tail that loads up and springs like tigger! I am riding the new extremes right now and loving them too. Tough decision every patrol shift when I go to my locker! Think SNOW!

I have a pair at 167cm - ya I know seems way too short. But these skis love steep hard pack might be considered as just a carver but these babies like to go fast and rip up the slopes with precision. I find that they are a little twitchy on the flats with that short 13m turn radius but all and all love’em like the guy above the skis add some zest to spending 8hrs of patrolling up in QC.

I discarded my fat all-mountain skis for a short period as I had borrowed a set of these.  I was at first sceptical until I had a blast down a huge black run in Aosta, and was completely blown away by these skis.  I suddenly felt like the most awesome skier who has ever lived- this is what these skis will do for you!  Totally effortless, fast edge to edge, unbelievably grippy, just fantastic in every way.  I am now saving frantically to purchase a pair for next season, I suppose the only drawback is the price, but you get what you pay for!  In a previous life I worked as a tester for a snowsports company (tough job I know) and have tried a vast number of all types of skis, but these remain my firm favourite!
