Salomon Equipe 10 3V Race 2004 Ski Review

Modern Carving skis are just getting better and better.  Salomon is offering these ultra fast and lively slalom skis in a similar guise to the past few seasons.  If you have never seen a pair of these then you ski with your eyes shut.

Ski-Review’s Verdict:

The Equipe 10 3V’s are fun and lively throughout the whole turn, especially so in the tail; liken to springs throwing you in to the air.

I have heard reports of Salomon, and in particular the Equipe 10 3V’s skis not having the longest life span (I had a pair so can relate to that) but when they are alive they are incredible.

I could go on but you have heard it all before.

The problem with all the current race skis is that fundamentally they are all very good and it is becoming very hard to differentiate which is the best.  We are at a stage where the technology available is maximized to its fullest potential.

The Salomon offering could be seen to be the best one on the market.  But what we have to factor in is the presence Salomon has with a very aggressive (and successful) marketing campaign, big name sponsorships, all combined with the awesome products available on the racks from other manufacturers.  During the week the Equipe 3V’s had to share with Elan SLX, Dynastar Omeglass; Fischer RC4 WCSL and a pair of Head Cyber XP100’s.  Even after comparing all of them in a very short timeframe nothing separated them.  When not testing I picked up the Omeglass, but more due to the fact that I actually own those than anything else.

So my apologies for turning this review into something more like an article.  Hopefully the new crop will offer something radically different across the board – bring on Zermatt!

Conclusion?

Over all a big thumbs up for the Salomon Equipe 10 3V SL.

Slalom-as a ski discipline -as a way to ski-is a lot of work. The balance point is narrow and if you jet out there is no tail to lean on. They do not run on a flat ski and they get deflected easily because of their length. DOWN UNWEIGHTING IS MANDITORY because if you up-unweight you’re in the air too long and the sweet spot on a SL is small to land on. I’ve got a pair of these in a 155cm. WHAT A GAS !! I can down un-weight and steer them across my line of travel and land on a clean carve…I can get long arcs and reasonable speed if I balance farther back on the ski…usually on slalom skis the high side crash is always waiting-but these are easier than say a P-60 by Volkl and they don’t have that nasty railed feeling of an Atomic SL. one of hte easier to ski slaloms ciao paul

G-Force, assume you’re referring to the new versions 04/05/06 which are 112-65-100.

They rip.

I’m a former div 1 racer whos looking for some groomer boards but I’ve been out of the ski scene for the last 5 years and I assume my old x screams are out of date. Are the new school slalom skis too specialized to ski on for fun outside of a course? I’m looking for something with enough sidecut to whip off 360 degree turns yet also lay down GS/SG turns.

I am an intermediate skier or i was when I owned these. The pro-links may be doing their work, but they also destroying top sheet of your ski in one season. Also for slalom ski I found the edge hold is inadequate. I switched to Volkls V4 after trying V3 and Carver Motion models and found all of them have much better edge hold then Salomon. I think Salomon owes it’s popularity to a good marketing and it is very evident now 3 years later.
