Salomon X-Wing 10 (2008)

The X-Wing 10 is quicker and lighter than its 3 big brothers, so unless you actually launch off cliffs and rip down steeps that seem too steep to hold snow, the new 10 makes perfect sense and brings a new versatility to this category. Any turn shape can be executed with minimal muscle or effort.

Salomon X-Wing 10

Model: Salomon X-Wing 10 (2008)
Size(cm) / Radius(m): 166/14.9
Sidecut: 118-72-101

Manufacturer’s Description of the Salomon X-Wing 10:

"Salomon’s revised X Wing skis are some of the most well-balanced skis available for a blend of precision and power. The wood core and Pulse Pad Technology offer a stable ride on hard snow, combined with a large width chassis for excellent floatation through crud and powder."

Ski-Review’s Verdict:

The Salomon X-Wing 10 feels very light and easy to coax into any turn shape. A fun ride with some great built in benefits to skiers who want one pair of ski but ski in a mixed bag of conditions and terrain. They are not for speed freaks, but you may find yourself skiing a little faster and better, just because the X-Wing 10 feels so eager to respond to your input.

Experts will be able to push the X-Wing 10 past its limits, but those skiers aspiring to expert levels will achieve their goals faster on a ski like this, simply because they encourage you to ski better by raising your confidence and allowing an occasional “faux pas” to go unpunished. Ski more runs on more terrain with less fatigue. Most important…the X-Wing 10 is fun.

I’ll be brief. Light, quick, forgiving, versatile and reasonably priced.

I spent three days at a pro workshop and did a demo with this ski and the Tornado.  I am 5’6” and 145 pounds and found the 10 fun, quick and nimble.  The Tornado is a good ski as well, but found you had to ski it fast to make it go.  At 45, I don’t fly like I used to, and this ski was a pleasure.  Held well at speed and great with turn initiation and control.  Loved the flex.

In Vail for a week and demo-d this ski for two days.  Good ski.  Easy to turn, stable.

By far the best, most responsive and most fun ski I’ve ever had. Well worth it

This ski has great control and a little forgiveness too! I have a bum knee now but looked like a pro all over again on this ski. Demo for 4 days and loved it more every day

I have been off skis for ~10years before this season.  I would have considered myself adv-intermediate.  After careful consideration I bought this ski and have not been disappointed.  I have skied it from East to Whistler and it has not missed a beat.  I feel like I have prgressed back to the level that I was at incredibly quickly and I figure it is the skis.  They have performed exceptionally well on both east-coast ice/piste and Whistler’s knee-deep.  Very happy with this ski.

I just got back from Tahoe and demo’d the X-wing 10 along with the Atomic Metron 9 and Volkl AC20. I’m a big guy, usuallly the biggest on the slopes and ski intermediate to advanced slopes. I liked all three ski’s but the x-wing 10 is the one I’m going to buy. It was probably the slowest of the 3 ski’s but was rock solid on ice, groom or crud. (late spring, no powder). It is so easy to turn at all speeds and conditions I tried, and has some forgiveness but is not too flexible. For my ability, best ski I have ever been on.

I have been researching & reading up on various skis. I had narrowed it down to a Salomon ski. I figured according to my abilit and $$ that this would be the ski for me. I have purchased the ski & cant wait to hit the slopes this year. Comments I have read are very encouraging. Once again…...East coast skier & “I CAN’T WAIT.”

Can anyone tell me if there have been changes made between the 06-07, 07-08, and 08-09 models?

I demoed these at Copper (2009 version) on a good snow day and then followed with a Salomon Lord (double tip).  The Hurricane was so impressive and easy to ski everywhere, I especially loved them in the bumps, where they were very light and easy to manipulate (not the Lord’s cup of team).  I just bought a pair and will taking them to Winter Park, Vail and Steamboat over the next month!  I haven’t taken them in any poweder, but the waist is wide enough that they should have no problems in powder or the back bowls at vail!

Skied on the Salomon X Wing. Great ski for the pow pow. Soft shovel and nice flotation. Works ok on the groomers too but wouldn’t want it if I wasn’t in search of freshies.

Skied the 2009 season in Vermont and New Hampshire.  Awesome hold on the hard pack and carving like a dream.Ryan and Lauren like the way they feel while Josh ans Lexi loved the way they looked.  Save some $$$ and find a used demo to buy.  Go Giants !!

I used to ski, then completely swiched to snowboarding the last 17 years.  Snowboarding on packed down runs is not fun and my feet hurt from exertion on muscles below the knee down into the feet.  That is due to keeping the board on edge in hard snow.

So I rented some x wings to give skiing a second try after all these years. They did great on the packed stuff and I bought the rentals that day at a very cheap price!  Now I will board the ‘park’, the powder and the trees and use skis on days when I just ride the cruiser runs.

You guys are really lame if you think skiing powder is fun - powder is much better on a snowboard.  Consider doing both - the extra gear does not take up much room in your closet.
