Atomic Metron 11B5 2007 Ski Review

A light feel for Metron, giving them a nicer, easy to handle feel while still taking the skier everywhere on the mountain.

I rode these for a day at Alta late in 06.  They rocked.

I skiied a 170 that felt plenty short under foot.  Easy to swing around under any conditions.  The ski seems to want to cut a short radius turn, but was happy doing just about anything.

I will be shopping for a close out deal on these this season.

Hello, I found an amazing deal on new Metron 11 B5, or just 11, I cannot remember, with neon 412 bindings.  I will be a ski instructor in Switzerland this winter, and was wondering if this skis would be good for me, not only to teach but to have all around mountain fun.

The problem is that I am 6’5 or 196cm, and 84 kg or 185 pnds (which is light for the height), and the skis are 172 (but extremely wide).

So, would it be ok for me? They are about 4 cm lower than my chin?

Please help as quickly as you can. Thank you very much. Nikolai

The Atomic Metron 11 B5 is a groomer ski. It’s sidecut isn’t as aggressive as something like the B5.

This ski does exactly what Ski-Reviews critic says.  Be prepared however to sacrifice more than a little quickness side to side.  It’s a big sacrifice and if you are going to use them on ‘eastern powder’ i.e. ice, you’ll miss the quickness afforded by a narrow waist.  As with any such ski, it is a compromise.

I (6’0/195) have been skiing on the 11B5s since March 06 (other current skis include 06 Atomic S11 165, FIS and 05 Rossi RPM 100 174).  I find the side to side quickness more than satisfactory (remember I ski the S11s).  The ability of the ski to go from powder/crud/groomer in the same run surprises me daily (as well as friends who have tried the ski).

The more I use them, the more I like them! 5’11/200 on 164cms, and they instill a level of confidence I hadn’t enjoyed on my previous longer, skinnier skis. Finally going to get more comfortable in the powder & crud! A little heavier than I’m used to, but thus very stable. I haven’t noticed any side-to-side ‘slowness’, perhaps because of my skiing style not being very quick anyway!

I purchased these skis for the 2007 season. They took a bit of getting used to but that could be because I also purchased new boots. However, on my second trip away they were amazing. Speed and agility in the turns is incredible and they added a new found confidence to my mogul skiing, which I used to hate! They are a bit heavy, which inspires in terms of stability at speed on piste but I don’t think that the weight issue detracts from their amazing agility in the bumps and generally on piste.

My wife and I have been skiing on the 11B5 skis for two years….it"s a great all around high performance ski. We have skiied in 6” of powder, on groomed (makes sweet railroad tracks), hard pack, bumps, and in the NASTAR course (consistent Platinum medals).  The ski does it all.  We have other skis but we ski on this ski the majority of the time. We ski over 100 days a year in Colorado.  We highly recommend this ski.

5’10, 185lbs, skiing a 176.  Perhaps a bit long but suits my aggresive skiing.  I find the edge to edge to be really good and they like to be thrown around.  really suits a faster aggresive style and can be a bit hard if going slowly.  I’m still skiing my 2007 models - i absolutely love them, but man are they heavy!
