Atomic Nomad Sugar Mama 2008 Ski Review

They look big and heavy but appearances are deceiving. The Nomad Sugar Mama is a solid, stable carver with lots of “go anywhere” possibilities. This is an expert ski for good Women skiers, with enough user friendly benefits to accommodate the Lady who wants a ski she can “grow into” and still be appropriate as her skill level and confidence increases.

Manufacturer’s Description of the Atomic Nomad Sugar Mama:

"The Sugar Mama is a women’s specific version of the Atomic Blackeye. The innovative TFC system with six sectors in the tip and four in the tail of the ski shaves excess weight, and creates forgiving flex zones. The nano-reinforced backbone resists twisting so Nomads go where you point them and deliver unique edge control. Sugar Mama is a high-quality all-mountain ski with a lighter core and a women’s specific mounting point that invites you to ski anywhere, anytime, and in any conditions. on all types of terrain."

Ski-Review’s Verdict:

One sure sign of a great new ski; the pros at the industry demo weren’t bringing them back. That says a lot.

YA! Confidence is what the Nomad Sugar Mama builds, as they take you through anything the mountain throws at you or settle in to some very nice carved arcs on the perfect morning groomers.

They looked heavy. They ski LIGHT, and the testers put them through everything they could find. The results came back “All Good”. The “Mama” is strikingly capable when it comes to unceasing ability to get out there and ski hard. They rock! And they love to ski fast.

I demo’d those mama’s this weekend. It was below zero 2nd day and I was out at 8 am loving life. They did great on everything. They didn’t need to be stiff or heavy to hold me on hard packed with some speed. Did great in the bumps too. They turn easy and made me feel like a pro. Very cute. I can’t wait to buy them.

I demo’d these this weekend—loved them.  From the minute I put them on, I didn’t want to take them off.  I had tremendous control at top speeds on every part of the mountain.  They are agressive skis perfect for type III women.  I demo’d some other skis just to be sure—I’m sure—nothing beats the Atomoic Sugar Mama.

The first pair of womens skis that I love. I like to ski fast and all over. Mens skis keep you stable but can be more difficult to turn due to stiffness.  ‘Love the control, love them..really love them and cute too!

I’m an intermediate skier and have taken these skis through crud, powder and on groomed slopes. My previous skis were Atomic Beta Carv 9.18 and on really hard groomed slopes I find them a bit more stable. The Sugar Mamas took a bit of getting used to on groomed slopes as they turn more easily. I skied with them at Big White and Silver Star - they aren’t quite as good as powder skis for 12” deep powder but for a couple of inches and for ungroomed runs they are great. They turn much better on moguls than my old skis, which I am not selling yet!
