Atomic ST11 2006 Ski Review

123 -65-103. No not Dolly Parton, its the new SHORT TURN (hence the ST) Atomic that garnered a lot of WOWS at the Eastern US industry demo.

Ski Review Brands

Put a lot (hundreds) of skilled skiers in one place and let them test everything for next Year. Then listen, and trade opinions with skiers from everywhere, while you ride the Gondola or chair. There are always a few models that are hard to get for a few runs, because no one is bringing them back.

The new Atomic ST11 is a softer, user friendly slalom ski. BUT, its more. The ST11 is not only great looking; its FUN, and isn’t that really why we love to ski? FUN! Sure there’s all that B4 Race technology & Magnesium Power Rods. There’s Hyper Carbon too.(insert joke here…)

Techy stuff aside, the Atomic ST11 is another ski that will find its way into the hearts of many who test them. I’d sure suggest a pair for those who simply love to make lots of turns in a short distance. I’m smiling just thinking about it.

I couldn’t agree more !  I bought a pair on Feb. 2nd this year after hearing good things about them.  I have a pair of Metron B5’s that are great with a SUV feel about them, solid and unflappable.  The ST11 has a much more nimble feel to them and are great on eastern powder (i.e. hardpack/ice)  A real enjoyable carver, try em’ you’ll like em’ !!!!!

I?ve tested this ski against the new Fischer RC4 SC as a replacement of my old Salomons 10 3V. And the Atomic ST came out a winner. Both skis makes exceptionally stable turns, but the Atomic feels ?lighter? from edge to edge. So I guess I found the ski for next season.

They stink, are heavy and very hard to turn on.  Get the M: ex instead.  Do not buy these skis!!!!!

I have skied the B5 and M: ex, and those were superb, but I have to agree with previous statement, the ST stinks, or Stinks Truly!  Buy the M11, M: ex, or M10’s, don’t waste your money on these sticks.

This is more of a slalom ski, so it does great on the course, but i can see how beginners like the previous two would have a hard time getting from edge to edge. they tried them because they look “pretty” you can find a pair on ebay, with bindings that match, so if you get the chance go for it! get them while they last.

Demoed them and loved them.  Ski very much like the Rossignol PP 9S from a few years back, but feel faster.  You will fly on these.  Great in crud too.  A very fine carving ski for the eastern skier.

The side cut beckons one thing - they want to turn - and turn do they.  If you like to skate your turns - then these are the skis.

Make sure you set the Neox bindings in the center position not the forward position or you will find yourself sitting on the snow. Once set up properly they are great carvers with incredable edge grip especially on the northeast slopes.

For you (and me) hardpack/ice skiers, what angle are you using?  And is there much metal to allow for regular sharpening?

The ST11 is made for the advanced EASTERN SKIER. The hardpacked snow that we are used too was made for these skis. In the west this ski can still be enjoyed but for best use of this ski use it in the east.

I honestly loved the ST11’s. I just recently demo’d them and I am a J7 race coach, so I need a ski that is good for first time carvers (my students) AND racers (myself). I found the skis to be enjoyable and really easy to turn. Chek them out!

A friend of mine tried these out. He said they felt more like an all mountain ski rather than a race ski. I gave them a whirl and I have to agree with that statement. They’re a fun ski, but I wouldn’t race on them. They arent stiff enough in my opinion, and they are not as powerful as Atomic’s real slaloms. I would use these if your more of an intermediate skier. If your looking for a race ski that you can still enjoy out of the course I would take a look at the Atomic SL:9s.

I have a pair of M10’s & B5’s. I picked up the ST11’s on eBay because of one of these reviews. I love this ski. Its a little softer then the race ski, but its not soft by any standard.  It initiates turns on a dime, holds a great edge, I have used it in the bumps, and the smile factor alone is worth the price of admission.  I bought a pair for my wife, who also has the M10’s and its her favorite.

I got a pair last season, and I can’t say im an expert skier, but definetely intermediate. I thought they are really fast and nice on jumps skies, but I also thought they were a little heavy and hard on turns. But I’ll believe the comments above that I probably felt that way because im not an expert. Hopefully will get there soon.

I am an advanced skier that wanted an all mountian ski and it is great and it also is not half bad racing either but I am not the best at racing. It turns very easy if you are a solid carver.

Very fast, good on hardpack, not so good on ice. Fine tight turns, but you have to be in control all the time. Not for relaxed skiing. Incredible heavy. By M11 instead

i bought this ski last march for nationals, and didnt like it. If you are around 5"11   130-160lbs, there way to soft. They look nice, but no. I dont think they perform good. I would say if you are buying them, get the full fledge race binding not the neox.

I am an advanced skier and ski Mammoth and found these ski very demanding in soft snow, better on hardpack. I had difficulty getting this ski to bend, may be to stiff for me. I have the Neox binding set in the forward position and will try moving them to the back position
