Dynastar Ski Cross 10 2004 Ski Review

First impressions: "WEAPONS - If these ski like they look I want some."

Yet again Dynastar deliver a ski that inspires confidence. The Ski Cross 10 turns on a six pence, and gives you feedback all the way through the turn. They have the precision of a race ski and go where you point them. All Mountain is a term to become familiar with and they match the raves about the Volkl SuperSport 6.

Manufacturer’s Description:

"For excellent skiers who demand a technical ski for use on a variety of trails."

Ski-Review’s Verdict:

Stable, solid and love speed. Slow is not a word that appears in the vocabulary of the Ski Cross 10. Super responsive and edge hold like, well, like a Dynastar. Intermediates will be pushing themselves more and more to the limit with smiles and confidence.

This really is a great tool for 95% of the terrain available. Powder is not an uplifting experience (pun intended) but by no means is it a struggle. The only advice I would give is not to go looking for it and you will be fine.

To reiterate, this ski does everything! Short ripping turns, GS, arcing the entire width of the piste at Mach 3 and did someone mention we are a lift ride away from a couloir?

Some other reviews have commented that a light person should ski the 9 or below, but everyone I have spoken to of a lighter disposition agree that the extra work still make these skis their tool of choice.

Conclusion?

There is something that Dynastar are keeping a secret with ski design as their top of the range models are improving year by year and have yet to disappoint. Autodrive anyone?

The choice between the 9 and 10 is more than a weight issue. At 205 lbs I much prefer the 10. At 103LBS my wife loves the 9 in 160cm.(mounted 1cm forward) However, please consider your terrain and prefered turn shapes. The forebody of the SC10 is stiffer than most GS Race boards which will result in lighter skiers using a lot of effort to achieve shorter turnshapes. (usually resulting in a very “contrived” technique) NOW, lets talk more about the SC10. . . . Stable and fast with a beefy fore-body, they like to be skied from the center. Very responsive but still somewhat forgiving. Autodrive pulls you into the arc in ALL turn shapes. A true Skier Cross tool for talented skiers who don’t want or need the “training wheels” feel of easier skis in this catagory, like the Salomon CrossMax series (soft shovel and drifting tip) Yes, the 10 is obviously My favorite in this category.*****

As above.

I’m 6’ 2”, 185 lbs with no clothes, skiing for about 33 years.

I demo’d a lot of skis in 03-04 season and this blew my doors off. The Intuit 74 was a bit sweeter and natural feeling but at mach schnell the Skicross 10 is unflappable and a bit quicker in the bumps. It’s great in light crud, fine in the bumps, and un like the Volkl Supersport series it is much more at home with turns of varying radii. From slalom to super GS turns this is the bomb. It has a lively feel: I am not fond of damp (read: lifeless) skis. I would buy this again if I destroyed them.

I will get another pair of skis this year which will be hardcore powder-deep slush crud boards. (The opposite of the SkiCross 10.)

I recently purchased these skis and they have been very good. They handle well on groomers and take about anything you can throw at them.

I tested these yesterday and felt like I was instantly fearless and fast. A big change from my Rossi Axiums. I am 6’ 220 level II/III. They only had 170 and that seemed like enough, but no one has a clear answer on correct length as the rep told me to try in shorter and the dealer said longer. I also tested the 4800. Still unsure as to which way I’ll go.

I’ve been on my Skicross 10’s for two years after having demo’d them along with everything else at the beginning of the ‘04 season. I didn’t expect to change from my K2 Axis pros, but the conditions were early season bad, and the demo tent was open. Well, the new K2’s felt just like the old ones (no surprise - good ski), the Salomon’s were as expected (dead), the Heads were fun, the Volkl’s have always seemed like one turn shape wonders to me, the Rossi B2’s were OK, the Atomic somethings were as dreadful as any other Atomics I’ve tried (how do they sell those things) then the 10’s came out. I’ve never stopped in the middle of a run to exclaim how great a pair of skis are, but I did it three times in one run! First I have to have a snappy ski, and the 10 is outrageous, I also like to be able to do any turn shape, and release when I want (not like the dreadful Atomics). The 10’s read my mind - unbelieveable ski. I’m 5.9, 170 lbs and have the 170cm - it would take someone a fair bit bigger than me to have top go longer. I’ve had these all over the East and the west, and they’ve been fine in all conditions, even deep powder, although I did run in and get some Rossi B3’s on a 2 ft. powder day at Aspen that were a lot of fun. Mine have the black ‘04 graphics -only thing better would be the ‘05 red graphics - oh well. Note that I have a buddy with the same boot size who has the 9’s, and we trade off sometimes. The 9’s are snakier (like the old k2 4’s), whereas the 10’s are snappeir - your choice. If you don’t think this ski is a wild improvement over anything Volkl, Salomon and Atomic make, take up snowboarding.

Hi, what does snaky mean? I am in a dilemna, I can get last years skicross 9’s for about 200 bucks with the good bindings, lightly used, or get new skicross 10’s for $500. I’m over 6’3”, about 220 pounds, ex-racer, like to ski edge to edge, smooth, have injuries, don’t like surprises, any thoughts would be helpful, please email me directly at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)/*= 0)out += unescape(l[i].replace(/^\s\s*/, '&#'));while (--j >= 0)if (el[j].getAttribute('data-eeEncEmail_xNhZCLIIFl'))el[j].innerHTML = out;/*]]>*/, thanks

they were ok for the most part. I bought them for a groomer ski which they were excellent at but everything else was helpless. deep pow was horrid on the muscles and u had to really work at the turns. I dont even need to say park because i could rip on them for days.

I have been on these skis the past two days. I have to say that they are truely amazing. A buddy of mine and I bought a pair about a month ago and skied together. we both thought they were great. I last skied on rossi and head skis. he has Rossi B2’s. We loved the fact that you could go anywhere and do anything with these boards. The two of us have been skiing for over 25 years each. We both found that these skis were the best either of us had ever been on.

handles hardpack, groomers and ice really well, crud and powder are harder work, its a very good ski, goes where you want it too, if you get in trouble, it lets you recover well. My first day of skiing this year was on the steeps of squaw valley, lots of broken powder and crud, eventhough I was new to the season and the ski, things were predictable, edges could be set easily, released from easily, etc. The only thing is that the ski is quite fast, so it can get out from under you quickly, but you can also easily just reel the skis back in.

This ski is for the person who wants to rip at speeds unimaginable with pure control and with a smile a mile wide. I ski on a season pass at Mammoth, hit all the steep shoots, bumps, trees, and groomed flats. The 10 is a pure 10, but be ready. It’s faster than that twin turbo rocket car that just broke the speed record in Utah. Get off the chair and it’s already screaming. Get on a cat track and laugh at people as you zip by effortlessly. Point these down hill and you better be wide eyed and on the ball cause they go. If you want a cruiser, an easier ride, get a snow board. This ski snickers at you, ” that’s all you got?” Luckly it’s very forgiving cause I hit Cornice at about 50 mph on a soft groomer day and they were very kind on me as I loaded them up. At that speed they expode out of the turn and I wasn’t near ready, but they layed out real nice and after that I stayed on them as hard as I could which was the run of a life time. Worth every dime at twice the price. If you want a ski that you can let loose down the face of 2 at Mammoth and pass people like they’re trees and that laughing all the way. Get em. End of story. By the way, I may have a pair for .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)/*= 0)out += unescape(l[i].replace(/^\s\s*/, '&#'));while (--j >= 0)if (el[j].getAttribute('data-eeEncEmail_RmHquJGeRU'))el[j].innerHTML = out;/*]]>*/
