Dynastar Skicross 11 2006 Ski Review

Okay, the color wouldn’t be my first choice, but real skiers never match, right?

Ski-Review’s verdict:

Dynastar is right . . . . again.

Our first runs were on some ultra-groom packed powder that was making even the "Pilot" skis feel good. (Sorry guys, but the words "Pilot" and "Feel" are usually mutually exclusive)

So, we headed away from the crowded "test runs" and got on with putting this ski through everything we could find.
I try to refrain from using the term "unflappable" as it could also refer to a comb-over-hair-do and industrial strength hair spray.

Lets employ another over used ski adjective. VERSATILE. If you have the skill set and love to go faster than most mountains condone, this might be your new ski. Glades, speed, aggressive edge sets with the ski WAY up on edge and on just about anything you can find, the 11s deliver stellar performance and produce some healthy grins.

Like Dynastar’s race skis, the Skicross 11 won’t be muscled, but responds without hesitation to smooth deliberate input.

So what sets the 11 apart from some other great skis for 2006?—Out of 8 testers that skied this ski, 7 said they would buy it as their only pair, to ski everything, anywhere.

No, I don’t just like Dynastar—but there are lot of skiers out there that would benefit from a ski like this and someone has to point out the great ones.

Demo’d these (and 6 others)  in New Zealand yesterday and was very impressed how responsive they were on packed powder and crud. Very predictable and smooth. Not sure how they’d stack up in the powder, but guess they’re not really designed for too much of that. I think you get what you pay for with the Skicross 11’s.  They’re expensive here!

Just got these on sale and had a chance to try them out. They’re fast, stable yet nimble and reponsive. You can ski them with a traditional technique or carve a wide variety of arcs. I even tried blasting staight down in a tuck with the ski flat on the snow which supposedly would make a shaped ski go unstable but it didn’t happen. I found them easy to handle, much better than my old 200 cm boards. I bought them in 172 and I’m 180 cm / 100 kgs. I was tempted to get them in 178 because of my size and because I like to ski fast but since the idea was to make a significant change I elected the 172. I got exactly what I was looking for.
