Fischer RX9 2005 Ski Review

Fischer RX9, another best of ....

A "best pick." for sure.  Superior edge grip, with GS stability.

"The top model for carving experts! As used successfully by the Fischer Skiercross Team and extremely versatile. With World Cup technology such as Frequency Tuning inside, Air Carbon, World Cup edges, Super Base etc., ready to take on any slope and any gradient."

Ski-Review’s Verdict:

One of the best performers and actually friendlier than the Rx8 with less sidecut, and a forgiving GS feel usually uncharacteristic of Fischer.

This ski loves to go fast and still delivers a smooth ride.

My only reservation; not a great bump ski but for Skier Cross devotees this is a great choice.

Smooth, responsive, nice arcs. Feels like a GS ski. Great edge hold. Easy to vary turn shape but note really a quick turning ski compared to a slolom or to the RX8 which seems to hook up faster. Not great in the bumps but managable and quite stable

held on ice nicely.  Everyone else was sliding but the fischer held its own.  Did fine in a small moguel field.  held the snow securely with no wandering and was solid in the crud.  Nice ski.

I demoed these on a blizard type day and thought they were quite flat and heavy, Though they did turn nicely. I’ll take a lighter ski any day!

This ski is awesome… I demoed them in scratchy crud and they kicked ***. I also demoed the RX8, Blizzard X Cross, Rossignol 9S, K2 Hellfire, Nordica, Ogasaka, and Volkl. These are awesome. I would recommend them to anyone who is thinking about them, but one thing is that you should demo the Rossi 9S Oversized… it was not an easy decision but I went with the RX9…paid 675 with bindings and they are an awesome ski.

I demo’d these skis on a day with pretty cruddy conditions and they were stable, powerful, and nimble. They felt heavy but performed light. They felt better than any ski I’ve ever tried. Outperformed high-end Voelkl and Salomon pairs I tried, as well as a Rossignol GS ski. I wish I could have compared them with the RX8.

Bought this model as a last year’s demo close out for $400 with bindings. A bit stiff for bumps but these skis rip in crud, do fair in powder considering the width, and are great on cruiser / groomers at high speed. They are well mannered in most all conditions and at all speeds. VERY happy with these as an all mountain ski except in deep light powder where specialized fats will beat anything.

I just bought these skis and skiied them all day on hard packed groomed runs. They are great! I know they are two seasons old now but don’t let that stop you from trying them out. I also have a pair of Salomon Pilot Super Hots which are better in the crud and powder but they cannot compare on those wide open runs where a GS turn is such a gas. Is the Fisher a great Powder, Bump, Crud, Quick turning ski? NO…..it loves to carve. I did notice one thing today. I was skiing much faster. I did not try to ski faster but the skis just took off! At the same time, I felt more confident at this higher speed on the Fishers. They hold like rails! I am 5’9” 175lbs and I skiied 165’s. I guess I’m saying that if you can have a pair of Fisher’s for those days (most days) where you are skiing the runs on the mountain that are groomed and wide open and another pair for those (seldom) powder and heavy crud days you will have it all. These skis put a huge smile on my face.

I got the RX9 last year and even I am female 5’9’’ and about 130lbs, I had no problem to ski on them in any condition. It is intresting to read the others opinions about these skis being heavy. I did actually pick them up, because I wanted fast, powerful skis, but still skis which don’t feel like I am drugging an elephant on my feet. I skied on them in the Alps on a beautifully groomed slopes as well as icy hills with bumbs and they didn;t let me down even on some water when I went to try them on,on a glasier in August .The snow was really extremly heavy with lost of puddles of water around. You can not get wrong with these skis!

I just demo these skis for 2days while in vail. The conditions were groomed and perfect amount of snow. I highly suggest these skis for a smooth GS style turning on groomers. Vail had just gotten a lot of snow so in the back bowls there was quite a lot of powder and i have to day these skis were pretty bad in the powder, they really didnt move at all. I don’t find these skis heavy at all and I think they are perfect for a fast GS style skier, just don’t take them in the powder.

Just bought a pair of 170cm and only skied on them twice. I’m 5’9 155 lb ski 100+ days a year for 35 years. These skis rock on ice and corn really hold an edge. Found them forgiving, smooth and powerful. Liked them in the soft bumps and terrain park, didn’t feel heavy. Liked them so much I ordered another pair for my wife after the first day. Closeout: $379.99 with bindings.
