Ski-Review’s verdict:
When I say the Salomon Scrambler Hot is new, I mean completely new rather than a update from a previously season. The Scrambler Hot can be considered a hydrid between last years Scrambler and the Scream Hot. This year, the Scrambler line got extended, and whats left of the Scream Hot is in the name of this ski.
Getting there was interesting as Les Arcs offered all types of snow conditions after the recent collossal dump of snow. While it had snowed a lot, temparatures meant rain soaked slush, to refrozen slush and surfaces like your those old courderoys you have in the back of the closet. HOwever, luckily, at the top - fresh snow!
A fairly non-descript, but not unpleasing experience. Shapewise, the Scarmber Hot is curvier than the component parts of the predecessor which made this ski one arc loving creature on piste and on more compacted surfaces off it which I like. However, has Salomon gone too far for an all mountain ski? At higher speeds this ski lost it stability and when turning at these speeds getting the tips to grip was tricky. A minor annoyance bit one worth mentioning.
All in all a good ski, but in an all mountain ski there are better options around.
I am in little doubt skis will be filling the racks of hire shops across the globe - as the hire shops here in Les Arcs already have more Salomon "Hot" skis that you can shake a spicy Mexican at.

Why is this the worst ski ever? I thought last years piliot hot was pretty good. Isn’t this the same exact ski? Do you think the sail of salomon has effected teh quality of the skiis they are making?

The crossfire is stiffer and holds better at speed, but way to freakin heavy. I felt like I was wearing cement shoes. I had a lot of fun on the hots, especially off the trail. I don’t think they suck. the volkl allstars are my favorite.

Brought a pair this christmas. Sailed through the crud and hard powder well, but they do love nice big carving turns. Pain in the arse to do sharp turns with tho. Generally quite an aggressive ski i thought.

I just bought a pair. Very aggressive, stiff ski…it’s not for the faint-hearted. I skied on them hard and never was able to over power them. On mixed snew/ice/crust it’s definitely less smooth than other options around, but all and all it’s one of the best skis I skied on. My other pair is a stokli stormrider and the combination of the two is pretty unbeatable.

5’5” 140lbs. Demo days at Heavenly 2/26/06. Not the best conditions for an all mtn test but ran through the paces on groomed/packed, ice & icy bumps, some crud & tree skiing. Compared Scrambler 8 (166), Scrambler Hot Pilot (166), Scrambler Custom (164) & Nordica Hot Rod Nitrous (162) under same conditions/runs. All these skis were good, just different in their strengths. Scrambler Hots was best for ice grip, solid & stable bite. It is a lively & light ski that seems to have good tail spring transitioning from turn to turn in the bumps. Ski generally seems softer than other brands of similar ski but the spaceframe construction appears to help retain energy. Tips hinted at a slight chatter on higher speed groomed. I’m light on it though and the length might be slightly long for me. Reasonably long sweetspot. Overall, an awesome ski! Settled on the Nordica Nitrous since it seemed a little more stable, sharper turning, huge sweetspot, a little wider/heavier for crud/tree running albeit not as lively. It was a tough decision! Scrambler 8’s were softer, chattered a little, & not as stable on ice as the Hot’s as expected, probably due to less torsional stiffness but easier to turn of course. Scrambler Custom was a little ho-hum, not bad, but no comparison to the Nitrous. Did a lot of research prior and did the test runs as scientifically as possible, repeating several times the same runs/path. Good luck!

Not sure how anyone can accuse these of being ‘not so good’, they perform superbly well on or off piste. Love the spring off piste and particularly love the stability in the power carve on piste. These skis do all the work, relax and go with the flow!

Great ski for a strong intermediate to advanced. Quick turning and responsive. I ski all over the mountain and in all conditions and this is my 6th pair of skis in 5 years. These are my favorite. I am 6’ and 200 lbs using 166 cm length.

6’4, 215 lbs., 44 yrs young. skiing since 16. Ski 12-20 days a year, fly to different resorts from current home in Alabama. Been on the same pair of salomon force 9s since 1993 - demo’d many, many skis in past 4 years looking for upgrade, and to stop being a bottom feeder in powder. Old knees don’t like crud either. Demo’ed the Scrambler Hot Pilot 182s at Whistler 2 weeks ago, and just bought the ski. They’re in the shop getting put together for a trip to Cascades over the next 2 weekends (a little business in the middle to pay for the trip) Best ski I’ve ever been on. True all mountain. I love the bumps, trees and extreme off-piste and these skis did it all. Handled 26 cm fresh very well - floated like a dream, and kept me on top in the drifts. Handled post mortem powder crud exceptionally well - floated down mountain at high speed through moderate moguls, and rocked in serious steep moguls in the bagel Bowl and the Whistler Bowl. Excellent in 3rd day crud at bottom of mountain with a little rain to make it slushy. The skis float and my knees felt 15 years younger - turning is effortless. Higly recommended, although I’ll probably tote my force 9s along when the conditions are hard, icy, or corduroy.

Tested these skis at Copper Mtn. on 3/25/06. Fun ski, but they do not grip well at all at high speeds. Liked the Rossi B2 much better which I also tested.

So far I have been disappointed with this ski. It is not good for cruising down fast groomed/icy blue runs. The tips wander around, the edges catch unevenly and after 20 years of skiing this is the most unstable I’ve ever felt when carving turns at 30+ mph. However, I must admit I bought these skis for powder and back country skiing and am still waiting for enough snow to take them on snow conditions that I think they were made for.

Never skied ‘em. I run some 210 K2 GS Race and Some Atomic Betas and some Rossignol 9S for my need of speed. I like the K2s in powder and for ducking ropes. My friend who has a pair says they look like girls’ skis. He says they’re good ... so he must be a girl.

I’m 6’00” tall riding 166cm length. I found the scrambler hot a joy to carve with. It grips high speed carving turns (~35-40mph) for me without any stability issues. I was turning hard enough that the first turns made my leg muscles feel like they were on fire. This was on groomed blue runs (with ice). I could take the whole run without braking and really build up some speed by the end. I generally don’t carve so much on the blacks because I find myself braking more, so it’s hard for me to judge the skis on those types of runs, but the stability on fast blues is superb for my skiing style.

I’ve ejoyed these skies for one season, and they are great, if your’re a advanced skier…if not, find another pair that you can handle!!

I have owned many skis over the years and these are by far the best I have ever skied on. I’m 5’11’ and weigh about 180 and ski on the 182 cm ski. I used to ski on 207’s GS skis for many years and these are faster and more stable. I have been carrying a GPS and have clocked 79 mph and they are rock steady. They are very quick and stable in the powder also. I skied on my powder skis yesterday, Salomon Pocket Rockets and really missed my Scrambler Hots. I may have to retire my Pocket Rockets. Scrambler Hots rock!
