Stockli Laser SL 2005 Ski Review

Blue is for envy, I want a pair!
Every once in a while you get a ski which looks like this.  A race ski with top sheets which say – "I am a race ski, no nonsense, no racing stripes – show me the poles" This ski looks like it means business and you hope it performs the same way.

Ski-Review’s Verdict:

Hard pack morning so back on the race skis – I did not have to have much persuasion to head over to the Stockli quiver.

Blue and awesome, yet simple.  The Laser SL looks fast, goes faster.

This was the third Stockli I have ever skied on yet again they impressed me more than I thought was possible.  One exception maybe was that they did feel light underfoot to begin with – but I had just been on my own Dynastar Omeglass 64 to get to the ski test and then the Rossignol 9S Oversize for the first test of the morning, neither of which are renowned for being light.

As I mentioned in the last review, the Nordica Doberman SL is user-friendly and a little bit forgiving.  The Stockli Laser SL is quite the opposite, only to be bought by advanced skiers/instructors or some poser who sits in the bar (we all know one!).

Unlike the Dynastar, Nordica and Rossignol answers to this market, what made this little Swiss ski stand out a little more, and only in one aspect, was how nimble there are and the feeling of balance they convey through the turn and just about everywhere else.

Another point worth mentioning about Stockli is that that they are one of the only manufacturers (if not ‘the’ only) who let the general public ski on the same skis that the professionals on the World Cup circuit use.  Feedback is sent straight back to the (manual) production line and used to improve the ski.  It is worth considering this when buying as you actually get a World Cup ski, rather than one with it written on!

Conclusion

All in all a very tight and robust slalom ski which you really can’t go wrong with.  Usual problem with these are the price and availability – handmade skis of this caliber don’t not come cheap or in drones.  However if you can get a pair, you know it is money well spent.

Even with a writeup like the above - the Laser SL still is not the best Stockli ski I skied on that week.  Watch this space.

I tested this ski in Livigno Italy and it was the best on slope experience I have ever had. Short and long turns were so easy and at fast speed! No sliding even on ice! Only the fist two runs though, than my legs hurt as hell.

Bought a pair at bargain end of season prices last year and got my first test last week. Have to say that I found it an excellent and balanced all round ski. Certainly inspires confidence.
