I was a total skeptic about rocker and fat skis.  Finally broke down and Demo’s the Gotama’s over memorial day weekend at mammoth.  Conditions were heavy powder on Sat, then thick slush the rest of the week.  (5-8 185lbs, good skier from colorado)  I have been sking a 178 for the past couple of years, (down from a 195 straight ski) so I stuck with the same size even though i have read that you need to go bigger because of the rocker.    One word,  FUN.    It took all but about 10 turns to get use to the rocker and I found myself laughing all the way down scottys.  I stayed in the steep slush for the rest of the day, Perhaps it was due to the slushy conditions and it not being ice, but they felt great on the groomers as well, (again it wasn’t ice so…)    By the end of the day i was popping the cornus off scottys and stomping the landings, plowing through thick powder at twice the speed, (just pointing them straight down hill at times).  on Sunday, Monday and tuesday I went back to the rental shop at the base to get the 178 gotamas around noon when the snow was getting real thick, and what a blast!    i also rented the K2 Obsethed but it was center mounted and that’s not my thing so instead of having them adjust the binding back, I just went back on the gotamas instead.  I didn’t feel that I needed a longer ski, so I guess that is just taste.  They turned pretty quick, and I did take them on some really tight bumps and was a rockstar for about 8 turns, LOL!  I’m sure that they take some getting use to but really are not for tight bumps in my opinion.  Big spaced out bumps no problem, heck you can just blast right through them.    Hope this helps.  Also rented the Mantras, the were super fun as well…
