Lange Ski Boots

We do not normally go big on ski boot info here—with ski boot "performance" being so closely related to an individuals feet any information gleaned is less than useful. You could argue that this applies for skis, and we agree to a point, but skis are much more peer to peer friendly than ski boots.

Regardless of the above, we thought that you would appreciate a synopsis of the Lange Ski Boot offerings as part of the Dynastar family for next season. Preceding this will be a similar article on next years pivot-less Look bindings, in addition to an expanded run down of the Dynastar ski line. Funny, I was just thinking it was time to replace my L10s…Enjoy!

TECHNOLOGY

New innovations for 2006 seem to centre around fit, with boot volume, sole design and liner fit all receiving “New for 05-06” tags. Buckles and catches have all been overhauled too.

Concept Fit

The Concept fit joins sibling Low, Medium and High volumetric references.

“New fit for the recreational range, with roominess and wrapping enhanced in the metatarsal, heel and toe box areas of the foot. More generous volumes do not however compromise the retention and closure characteristics of this revolutionary type of shell.”

Freeride / Exclusive Sole

Only one sole remains from previous years, Lange adding the Freeride and Exclusive (easy going) versions to the range.

Freeride – “A sole designed for all-round skiing, suitable for any type of terrain and snow. Excellent shock absorber.”

Exclusive – “Soft and comfortable support while skiing, giving less radical edge grip.”

Liner Technology

A selection of four is comprised of Liner CFL, Liner CPC, Liner CNC & Liner CRC, with only the CPC (Custom Pro Concept) version not being reworked for the new season.

Liner CFL – Custom Flo Liner

“A new range of liners aimed at the recreational sector that keeps alive the Lange ‘Flo’ tradition, providing effective and high performance wrapping of the foot, according to the skier’s requirements. A special, exclusive mousse with low compression memory quickly takes the shape of the foot, protecting it and ensuring correct retention while skiing. The most valuable characteristic of this sandwich is that it resumes its original shape after use and therefore remains unchanged over time.
A special spoiler giving a snug fit round the ankle, easy handling loops on the tongue and an adaptable Lycra toe box complete the “Recreational” features of these products.”

Liner CNC – Custom Natural Concept

“The Lange collection includes a range of liners designed for women, featuring revolutionary goose down inner padding that is comfortable, soft and, above all, warm.”

Liner CRC – Custom Rental Concept

“Liners with different structures for different types of use, all offering the following benefits:
- Excellent resistance to abrasion and absorption of water
- Fast drying
- Hygienic and washable
- Bar code for individual identification”

Buckles & Catches

A complete rethink means not much has been left untweaked.

Racing BucklesThe racing line has a new buckle, borrowed from the racing department, that has the following technological characteristics:

- Maximum toughness
- Lightness
- Easy grip
- Aerodynamic and compact design
- Ease of use with the ‘easy open’ terminal

All these buckles are in crafted aluminium and all feature integral micro-adjustment.

Easy in-out Instep Catch

An instep catch – Lange patented – that pivots by a full 30° to allow easy movement of the shell overlap, without hindering entry/exit from the boot. As it is closed, this mobile catch adapts perfectly to the surface of the shell without creating any uncomfortable and painful pressure points.

Light Alloy Buckles

A new range of buckles for the performance
and recreational ranges, offering the following
advantages:

- Lightest weight in the category
- Easy grip
- Innovative aerodynamic design
- Ergonomic dimensions

All these buckles are in pure, cold forged aluminium and all feature integral microadjustment. There is also a specific women’s version, specially designed for female use.

Concept buckles

The Concept range features a series of mechanisms for easy adjustment and/or closure of the buckles, according to the user’s requirements.

Double buckles

In line with its policy of constant improvement, Lange has equipped the Double line cuff with an intelligent macroadjustment system for the buckle (quick set
adj buckles). The body of this buckle can be rotated and moved by a full 1 cm (corresponding to about 2 positions on the catch), so making it easy to adapt the cuff to the shape of the user’s leg.

Quick Set Adjustable Catches

The catches can be simply rotated and moved to the required position to increase/decrease wrapping of the cuff. There is an adjustment range of 20 mm, equivalent to 3 positions on a traditional catch.

Endo Technology

The Lange “Endo Technology” seems to be mostly concerned with the Lange branding and aesthetical aspects of the boot.

A revolutionary technological and graphic innovation that offers the following benefits:

- Total integration of the brand within the product
- New design in terms of colour and size
- The materials used for this technology ensure progressive and constant mechanical flex as the outside temperature varies
- Life-time customisation of the product

PROCESS

The first injected layer is treated with special solvents to enhance its shine and ensure perfect adhesion of the graphic. The graphic design is then applied and the second layer is injected, consolidating the sandwich formed by the two layers. These components are all compatible and recyclable.
