Whitedot Freeride Interview
Written by Duncan Mills, Monday, 20 December 20108. Have you plans for a Woman’s ski? And I don’t mean a pink one.
Maybe - we’d never do pick and flowers etc, but and now Evas’ on board you never know. We have softened the 169 Preacher after requests from the girls and the 180 Redeemer is new this season after requests from Girls saying it was unfair that we only did a 190 Redeemer. There you go girls, you ask and we deliver!
9. How fat do you think you can go before its un ski-able?
Anything is skiable but I personally reckon 135mm underfoot is as fat as you’d ever want to go before it starts taking a toll on your knees. I reckon too many people are hung up on width. People should not pay attention to numbers but ski what best suits them and puts a grin on their face.
10. As we have spoken before about ideas of ski development you mentioned and “open source designs” on your shapes what does this mean?
We want to be very honest about what we are doing. I think for sure patent technology like composites or base material but not shapes as you can guarantee over the last 1000 years someone has done it. I think by being open and honest it drives snow sports development forward and then we all benefit. Companies should profit from damn fine products, not patents and lawyers.
11. Do you have any test days around the globe people can come and try?
We have a demo fleet in France based at Chamonix, a demo fleet in Mayrhofen and in Scotland. These demo teams will be traveling around so the website and facebook page will be updated where we are. Our distributors in the USA, Scandinavia, Balkans and Benelux will also be hitting the mountains doing demos all season. Their contact details are on our dealers page on our site.
12. Where can we buy?
All over the place, check out our website for your nearest dealer and if there’s no one near you, contact us.
13. If you could tell every skier one thing what would it be? Cheesy question but its nice to offer knowledge.
Freeride is not a discipline, sport or lifestyle choice! It’s a state of mind.
Oh and as skis are getting bigger its getting easier to get into the back country. The best thing you can buy besides our skis is a back country course.
14. What does the future hold in the RD dept?
We’re putting on the final touches to a new model in available in 2 lengths for 2012 and we’re really keen to try some different ways to help the skis glide. Watch this space.
15. One for fun…would you consider making a monoboard?
Ah the memories of my Fischer Graffiti Monoski back in 1990. Its now nailed to the wall where all mono skis belong!!! (just kidding monoskiers. If you’re smiling you’re cool in a retro hip sort of way)
16. Our last question is pass the mic, who should we interview next? And make It possible!
Fred. He rocks and has 9 lives.
Good luck with Whitedot from ski-review.com.
