2013 Ski Preview
Written by Dan Morgan, Wednesday, 08 February 2012After a couple of years rockering everything that moved, not having much or any camber in your skis now seems the “norm”. So what is the overriding theme for skiing in 2012-2013?
Backcountry access is the new poster child and it seems every brand we visited at a recent 2013 gear preview was promoting a range of custom skins for their skis or boots with hike and ride. Lange (XT) and Rossignol have added hike and ride ski boots with rubber soles to compete with Salomon’s early-to-market Quest and Salomon themselves have kept up momentum with the formal introduction of a touring binding jointly developed with Atomic, called the Salomon Guardian or the Atomic Tracker as well as updates to the original Quest in the form of the Quest Max.
Fischer took Elan’s evolving Amphibio concept in a slightly different direction by coming up with a ski that you can switch from camber to rocker at the flick of a, er, switch.
We’ll be posting brand specific 2013 ski previews over the coming days, so keep an eye on the latest news.
