Salomon Quest Access Ski Boots 2012
Written by Dan Morgan, Monday, 21 February 2011The Quest ride & hike boot range from Salomon has been very successful, offering a high performance alpine boot with the ability to flick a switch and skin or hike up the mountain. In addition to adding the super stiff Quest 14 and a ladies specific flex 100 version in 2012, Salomon will introduce a mid-market “Quest Access” range aimed at those who want the ability to hike, but prefer something slightly softer in the flex range or have a tighter budget.
The Quest Access 80 and Quest Access 70 ski boots have a last of 104mm and flex ratings of 80 and 70 respectively, along with ratchet buckles and, the coup de grace…wool metal insulated liner. The combination of wool and metal offer insulation and the ability to reflect heat back into the boot rather than out and into the freezing air. Like the regular Quest ski boots, there is only one cuff strap and an extra wide powerstrap, and the heel and toe DIN blocks are removable for replacement.

Perfect for my wife, who wants Quests but find the race/high end lasts too snug. 4 mm probably makes no difference but if she thinks they are wider then they’ll fit better if you know what I mean.

I was going for the Quest 8s, and hoping to pick some up cheap at the end of the season but was worried they might be too stiff after a few days on the hill in a row. The 80’s will be perfect for me. Love the fit in the Quests and presume the Access will be even comfier!
