Flachau

Flachau is a great place to base yourself for riding the whole of the Ski Amade. Flachau itself isn’t anything to write home about but you’ll be on the ski bus route that takes you to Zauchansee which has some of the best tree line off piste in the Alps and Flachauwinkl which is becoming pretty famous for the Absolut Park and the Burton Stash. Within a 20 minutes drive you can access the 4 valleys of Shcladming which has long wide pistes that rival even the most famous french resorts and the Horsefeathers terrain park which is one of the best in Austria. If you want to ride powder a week after it’s fallen head to the Living Room at Hochkonig, there are 3 small drag lifts but plenty of accessible backcountry, nobody bothers visiting so it stays fresh for days. Wagrain and Alpendorf are worth a days pottering around and from the start of march the Alpendorf Betterpark has some reasonably progressive jumps so that even if you aren’t pro you can catch some airtime. From April to July you can head to Obertauern which is a short drive for the back end of April, then all of the freestylers head to the Horsefeathers park at Dachstein which has one of the best summer parks in the Alps. All in Flachau is a pretty good place to stay!
