I’ve been skiing Avoriaz and the wider Portes du Soleil area for a number of years. I always prefer to stay in Avoriaz. What it lacks in architectural charm, Avoriaz makes up for in convenience when actually skiing.
Centrally located, Avoriaz enables effortless links with neighbouring Switzerland (via the “Wall” for those with legs and skill to match the small car sized moguls) aswell as Morzine below and Chalet to the side. It’s almost impossible to be bored with the sheer variety on offer from the extended liftpass whether on or off piste.
The middle of the resort is traffic free, so from a child perspective Avoriaz is a fantastic choice, and there are a number of accessible bars and typically overpriced (but good) restaurants to satisfy lunchtime cravings.
