Movement Joystick 2007 Ski Review

Back with a new take-it-or-leave-it topsheet and new construction technology, the 2007 Movement Joystick park ski from the new Movement range was my next pick from the rack.

Manufacturer’s Description:

“Back to the roots. The Joystick has a new construction. Launch into space and defy time with your expression of style. Happy with the most extreme spins and park sessions. The limits are only yours. Pure joy at the highest level.

Our most park orientated ski. Narrower and with a softer flex than the other models, so perfect for kickers, half-pipe and other park stuff. Enough all-round ability to be fun on the rest of the mountain too. New construction adds extra strength and responsiveness.”

Ski-Review’s verdict:

My first reaction to the new Movement Joystick when I got off the lift was that this is going to be painful—they felt twitchy and unstable. I certainly was not looking forward to riding these in the slush!

The first few turns were, well, interesting and much like anything this size in the slush, however when the speed picked up they just felt wicked.  The size and shape of these skis didn’t make me think they would be this nice.

After some high speed slush someone had the bright idea to try some bumps. Not my choice for a centrally mounted ski but what the hell. The extra tail made the ski really nice edge to edge through the bumps. I wouldn’t have wanted to take them in some bigger steeper bumps but they were nice on your average French black.

The control at higher speed means these will be a really good ski for maintaining speed through the pipe. They are really nice rotating so they will great for spinning tricks, these combine to make these a great pipe ski with potential through out the park and on most of the mountain. I’d keep these out of powder however they will be good for all other areas of the mountain. So if you are looking for a ski to dominate in the park and make sure you don’t look like a punter on the rest of the mountain you can’t do much better.
