Nordica Dobermann Spitfire 2008 Ski Review

It’s a Dobermann Race ski, but a little wider. Add the X Balance system and a sidecut that feels at home in turns of any radius. We loved the responsive shovel of the Dobermann Spitfire and superior grip that inspires confidence while carving some textbook arcs.

Model: Nordica Dobermann Spitfire (2008)
Size(cm) / Radius(m): 170/14
Sidecut: 122-70-105

Manufacturer’s Description of the Nordica Dobermann Spitfire:

"A new philosophy in terms of side cut and radius, designed for all slope conditions. Called a “Frontracer” the Spitfire is a true “frontside” ski for experts that want a ski that feels more like a Race ski but is not limited to the confines of FIS regulations."

Ski-Review’s Verdict:

The X Balance system on a race ski make it easy to maintain good balance so controlling the Spitfire is much easier than anyone expected. VERY nice turns and just enough “pop” from a controllable but energetic tail.

Reactive, explosive and big fun. This is another one of those illegal race skis that make everyone feel like they can ski anything, and they make you grin while you’re doing it.

While X Balance adds to the fun, it does not detract from the Spitfire’s ability to react to very technical input. Working the “fore and aft” sections of the Spitfire delivers stellar performance and never disappoints or detracts from the overall enjoyment on this “turning machine”.

I am a medium intermedite skier and I had a demo on these for 2-3 hours.

Though obviously an advanced / expert ski, it was not at all vicious with my meger skills. I would not call it forgiving (it highlighted my technical deficiencies) but it was a lot of fun and not at all intimidating. I feel that at intermediate ski level you can really improve your technique on these skis.

One thing that really made an impression was how these skis turned! Mildest input and they were off - great in any size of turn.

I am comparing these with the Fischer RX8 and Head Supershape Magnum… any thoughts on the comparison welcome.

Brian, I’m sure you have skied both. How do they compare? I’m 6 foot tall and 225. Very agressive and have been skiing Fischers World Cup SL.

Great skis, I bought them last winter and I won’t let them go unless I finish them off completely ;) And afterwards I might go and get exactly the same one. Easy turns, skis handle perfectly also short and aggresive turns with very good stability, have a great grip on the snow ,  really greeeat skis to ski. 9,9 points out of 10.

Bought these to replace 20yr old, 203 Volkl Explosives. I’m thrilled with them. My knees feel 20yrs younger! Was a little worried about the transition, but felt at ease on the first run. Not as stable as the Volkls at higher speeds, but super fun and easy!

Rented a pair in Montgenevre in Jan09.  Fantastic ski - turns like crazy with superb grip.  Used them in good new snow in Montgenevre and Sauze D’Oulx.  Great in soft deep off piste (down the lift line below the Jouvenceau lift).  they also carve beautifully on the piste (and off).  they really kick you out of the end of the old turn - brilliant

I would consider myself an advanced skier but not an expert.  I demoed a few skies this year, Rossi, Salomon, Blizzard, and by far this was the best ski for my abilities.  I am 5’9” and weight 170 pounds.  I find the 165 too short and the 175 too long.  I like the Rossi’s RC 9S but I had to work too hard to get them to pop for me.

Bought them to replace a world cup ski.  One year old and not sold.  Their loss.  Absolute Fun.  They love fast and full throttle forward.  Good in the bumps
