Salomon X-Wing 10 2009 Ski Review

The X-Wing 10 is quicker and lighter than its three big brothers (Fury, Tornado & Hurricane) so unless you actually launch off cliffs and rip down steeps that seem too steep to hold snow, the new 10 makes perfect sense and bring a new versatility to this category.

Ski-Review’s Verdict:

The Salomon X-Wing 10 is light and easy to coax into any turn shape with minimal muscle or effort. A fun ride with great built in benefits for skiers needing one pair of skis for a mixed bag of conditions and terrain.

They are not for speed freaks, but you may find yourself skiing a little faster and better, just because they feel almost eager to respond to your input.

Skiers aspiring to expert levels will achieve their goals faster, because they encourage better skiing by raising your confidence and allowing an occasional “faux pas” to go unpunished. Ski more runs on more terrain with less fatigue. Most important…the X-Wing 10 is FUN.

Brief summation… - Light, quick, forgiving, versatile and reasonably priced.

Looking at the x wing 10, 166.  Was skiing a Rossi Z3 with the oversize head, 162.  Closest I can get to the z3 is the z10. Anyone with comments on these 3 ski ? Not sure which way to go here.

I just bought these skis at a year end sale. The description sounds exactly what I’m looking for. They were a bit of an impulse buy, as I usually do more research. After having the bindings installed and picking them up, I thought they felt pretty heavy compared to my old Atomic Beta Carve skis. I’m a bit nervous of their heavy weight - I wasn’t expecting it, as they are described as “light weight” in this article. Any comments?

Maybe you got rental bindings on it?  Those are heavy..

No, the bindings come with the skis - the z10 bindings. But the skis actually felt very light and nimble on the mountain. I guess they just felt heavy to carry around. Love them! Looks like they changed the name to xw Storm for 2009/10. I highly recommend these skis. They are exactly as described in the ski review “verdict”.
